I had an 800 doo and a gps that was always on my dash. It would hit 115 on the speedo on the lake all the time. Never over 95 on the GPS. I have buddies with new doos that talked a big game about top speed. I had them put the gps in their pocket and reset the top speed. None of them went over 107mph. Speedo said 120 or so. My yamaha is always within 1 mph no matter how fast I'm going. Hit 114 last year. Regeared and had Ulmer machine the clutches. Looking for 125+ this year on the ice. If I can ever find any........
I radared a buddies newer skidoo a few times, radar was always 4-5 mph less than speedo, same with another buddies pro-r, at speeds over 105 my viper actually reads 1-2 mph slower on the speedo than what radar said, several back to back runs the speedo would read 107 and radar was 109 with stock gearing.

I should add that it's a low boost turbo, since then I did regear it and got one good run of 116 on the speedo, I'm sure true speed is very close to that. Giving it a little more gear this year and planning to get the primary machined a bit but same deal, hoping to see it do 120 on a low boost kit in perfect conditions.

Well I bought a 2015 Viper XTX SE last year for $9,200.00 compared to the $8,800 I paid for an RX-1 in 2002 and the $9,200 I paid for an 07 attack GT I think is pretty stable for 9 years later. Even at sticker price that sled is well below the correction for inflation over the past 13 years. The kicker is you paid $8500 for a ZRT in 1995 which was 21 yrs ago do the math on that inflation rate to a $13,000 dollar sled in today dollars.
In 2000 I paid 12,200 for a 1000 Pantera, basically a two up T-Cat. In 2005 a warrior was 14,500. 2011 Apex XTX was 17,200. I don't see stability I just see sleds getting more expensive. You can't compare a Viper to a RX1 or Apex, you have to compare it to a Vector.

Guys don't worry so much about those newer 800 doos. They eat belts for lunch! They might pass you but you will catch up fast when they are trying to figure out doo's belt change tool (5 minutes) and cutting out shredded up belt (10 minutes) and bitching there belly pan plastic broken when the belt blew (5 minutes). The turtle always wins the race.

Lets get this one back on track. New 17 Yamaha.
Good source tells me plastic on Viper is for sure changed for next year. So that's something.

I just want gear reduction on the Triple but have to admit the 4 with Crossplane would sound awesome on a sled!

Gear reduction on the triple?

Yes like Apex and Phazer have. Allows sane clutch rpm and insane engine rpm. Allows Yamaha engine to run the way it was designed to. Phazer is 12000 rpm + before it hits rev limiter but clutch is only turning 8300 or so. Much more efficient than what we have.Gear reduction on the triple?

I talked to a guy two seasons ago that bough a wheel kit. He had inside info on the mystery sled that will blow your mind is how he put it. I could tell he was not blowing smoke up my #*$&@. He said it was to be to be released in 17 and is a hi performance sled that will have close to 200 horse power. Was told it will not turboed or super charged. He said it would be the biggest change in snowmobiles in a long while. I am not making this up. I am excited to find out also. I am in the market for a new hot rod and will have to hold off on a turbo cat until I c this.Anyone hear about this, my local dealer told me that the new single shock skid in the old fart sleds coming out this year is sort of testing ground for an all new sled next year, that is if they sell most of their current line up.

I hope that's true, that would be amazing to see what engine that would be. How cool is it that Yamaha has the engineering to get so much horsepower out of a NA engine like the apex. Think what they could do if they set their minds to it. Don't they have a sport bike with that type of power? The trick would be to get it in a great chassis with Yamaha quality. Arctic cat chassis is fine but I'd like to see Yamaha hit it out of the park on their own.I talked to a guy two seasons ago that bough a wheel kit.
