I been doing alot of thinking on how I could mount a GPS (Montana) on my new sidewinder. I wanted something that looks factory and strong. Been looking around the web and came up with this.
Alpha makes a nice looking gauge pod, in different colors. However the holes for the gauges I didn't need. So I contacted alpha this morning and they tell me in the fall they will be making a new batch and they will make some without any holes.
So if you picture this alpha pod with holes mounted on the winder. Then I will drill holes in the pod mount Garmin bike mount to it and hard wire it in. I think that would look pretty close to factory.
What do you guys think?

I have a Garmin Montana now too. It's about the same size, only thicker, than my old Nuvi here.
I considered the alpha mounts too. I ended up going with the Ram System for a pretty clean look.
Didn't want all that aluminum sticking out and pushing the Garmin further forward.
I use the Garmin Montana power mount so it would be plug & play.
I did wire a Marinco locking end to lock into the existing power outlet on the machine.
Never vibrates loose on the trail.
Here's the Ram Ball mount on the gunge pod.
I honestly don't see any benefit of mounting the Garmin power mount to the alpha aluminum bracket. May look cluttered. Remember, if you power through the USB port the unit is no longer water proof. The power mount bracket powers the Montana through external contacts.

Not a very good one, but the best I could find for now.

Thanks for the picture. It's pretty high on top of the gauge pod. I'm hoping it will fit under the stock sw windshield.
Just a little worry when I roll my sled to get it unstuck will I damage it

Yeah, not a lot of room up top. Stock windscreen barely covers the gauge pod alone.

Bottom line - no, the Montana GPS will not fit behind the stock windshield.

Looks great Joe...
Anything smaller then a 7" IMO is too hard to see, and to tap on menu with gloves....also mounting it on crash pad/riser makes it much closer to your eyes and can tap on it easily without having to stop.
Ran my 2797 on my Doo the same way, and will install it onto my 18SW this fall in same manner...Here is a detailed thread with pics of Toms 7" Garmin I installed on his SW.

As good as this installation is, it won't work for me. I'm a backcountry rider and I just see myself smashing against that GPS. And if I don't break it that way, I will break it rolling it over to get it unstuck. I was so hoping that the Montana would fit on the alpha mount under the stock windshield, well even if the Montana with the mount would go there above the cluster without hitting the windshield .

I had my Montana on the bar riser this year and I couldn't see the tach. I'm putting it on top of the tach for next year just as the OP has it. My gauge on my Attak is on a Ram mount on the riser and has been rolled with no problems
. I do think a roll with a short windy and the Montana mounted there will cause some plastic damage tho.

Maybe you mounted it too high on the bar riser or maybe you have a taller riser than stock? The way I mounted mine there is no way the GPS blocks the view of my gauges. I also like to be able to use the touch screen without having to reach all the way to the gauge.I had my Montana on the bar riser this year and I couldn't see the tach.
