Oil tank hair line crack in bottom righthand corner near mounting bolt.
Contacted dealer to see if Yamaha will do something, doubtful but dealer will check.
Next option is to take it to the local welder, he thinks he can weld it. I know some people have had them welded. Is there anything I should know about having it welded and are the repairs holding up ?
I guess it's not if the oil tank will crack, but when it will crack.

A lot of us have mounted the tank with rubber grommets around the mounting bolt/stud to absorb the vibration. I have 9K miles on mine with no cracks... (so far)

The bro put some rtv sealant behind the mounts on mine which we replaced due to cracking. No problem since.
Think there might be a few tanks on ebay for alot less than the dealer price.

Sledhead162 builds a bulletproof replacement.

Do you have contact info or a web page for him?

Thanks

You could always take tank to a welding shop that know how to test the type of metal and proper procedure to weld aluminum.
I took mine to a local welder that said he could do it, but he ruined the tank. Three holes I could stick my finger in. After that I found a qualified shop, but they didn't think a patch that big would last. Bought a new tank, all said and done for $430.

That's a lot of money to fork out just to have another OEM tank. Sledhead162s tank is $250 and so strong that you could probably run it over with a car and not damage it.

How many miles are on the sleds where they are seeing this problem?

Mine went at around 10 and again at 20 thousand KM. (6200 and 12400 Miles)
