NOT A GOOD PLACE TO STAY!!!

BESSEMER -- Snowmobilers riding to the VFW here have a trail, and it doesn't involve the road trucks use to get to the industrial park, the Bessemer City Council agreed at its regular Monday meeting.

Corullo Forest Products agreed to let part of the spur trail run through its property, city manager Thomas Chatel said.

The spur trail will run south from the main east-west rail. That will help the VFW gain business off the busy trail.

VFW officials brought up the issue at the last city council meeting. They wanted the city to allow snowmobiles to use part of the road that runs through the industrial park.

Snowmobiles had always been able to stay off the road, but the property needed to do it changed hands.

Councilman Pete Matonich pushed for conversation with property owners to see if there was a way to make the trail work.

Dwight Filippini of the VFW thanked the council.

"We've got a very nice trail coming in there," he said.

Matonich said, "I would like to commend Mr. (Ray) Corullo for his cooperation."

:o| Bessemer Storage owners Mike and Donna Maslanka wrote a letter to the city saying it would not allow snowmobiles on its property due to liability issues.

They also urged the city to stop snowmobiles and ATVs from driving through the industrial park.

"The industrial park is a dedicated area for business to operate in a safe manor (sic) away from everyday pedestrian and vehicle traffic," they wrote. "The industrial park is not a recreational area. For the riders own safety, they should be banned."

:die They also own Travelers Motel in Bessemer, Chatel said. Matonich said the motel, located on U.S. 2, profits off of snowmobilers.

"I'm a little disappointed in the owners of Bessemer Storage," Matonich said. "What's good for the goose is good for the gander." :o| The trail will use part of Longyear Street.

SOME PEOPLE DON'T USE THEIR BRAINS!!!

What some goofballs!

Maybe us " not allowed to ride" sledders should not stay at that place again. I know I won't now. I've never stayed there before, but know now that I never will.

They like the money, tho, I bet.

What he said!

I have a hard time blaming people for being afraid of liability. Here in California people are taught from an early age that nobody is responsible for their own actions and we should all try to find someone to pay us alot of money so we never have to work again. I live every day terrified of the scumbag who blames me for something stupid that they did and wants to retire off of my money.

I'm a Canadian and I have no idea about those things in your country but here is what strikes me. The owners stating their case basically say due to liability they couldn't let this go through their lot. Yet she is pleased to report that another property owner nearby has allowed it. What is different for the other property owner? Are they immune to liability?

The difference is that they pay commercial insurance rates which are much higher than regular home owners insurance. I don't blame them at all. I'm tired of the "drive by media" getting stories out to the folks without having all the facts. As the response from the owner states, the trail issue was resolved another way. Here in NH my local club asks me to sign a waiver allowing them to bring the club trail accross my property. In return, if someone is hurt on my property for any reason, the state of NH will pay all claims made by the injured, not me.

They didn't say what the other property that is allowing access was used for, however if it was a business that has regular random consumer traffic their insurance rates reflect that additionla risk, so snowmobile crossing it does not increase their cost to insure. With the storage site, only customers renting specific units are allowed on the site, so their liabilty insurance is much less.

Ya know, I wish there was a way to keep the media in check sometimes. I'm not saying limit what they can report on, but come on! Its frustrating how somethings can get spun to get a desired public opinion.
:die

What about the people that rent a lockup to store there sleds so they do not have to trailer up every week , they will have to trailer over to the VFW and unload, not good to say the least.

"I live every day terrified of the scumbag who blames me for something stupid that they did and wants to retire off of my money." This is a sad statement..... not saying it's untrue but, just simply sad..... :( I know.... I know...... it may come back to bite me but, I own 170 acres and allow hunting and motorized recreation and refuse to allow the fear of being sued to ruin it for everyone else.
