After I finished my 128 conversion I lowered it off the hoist and all of sudden there it was. My left ski sits slightly back from the right ski (visually) and the gap between my GYTR springs between the top a-arms is different from side to side. Also.... my spindles are not both the same in regards to being parallel to each other. One is straight up and down or perpendicular to the floor and the other is slightly tipped in. I took pics with my cell phone last night but they didn’t turn out very good. I will be doing some measurements and doing a closer investigation today and with PICS. I also noticed when my bars are aligned to the middle (visually), both ski's are slightly turned to one direction as well and not centered with the bars. All of this is very slight at this point, but its there and I know I have hit NOTHING at no speeds. All I have ever done that could be "blamed" is jumping a little 3' snow bank at 5 mph and land a little awkward/sideways.
I’m not even 100% sure what I have going on here yet. First thing I need to do is a really accurate ski toe and handlebar alignment first since its possible that has been off since day one and I’m just looking really hard now because of everyone else’s experiences and stories.

I do know the shocks are both not centered but I’m praying it’s the spring bind or spring seating that is giving me the illusion that their not centered or equal to each other. I’m also praying the diff in spindles vertically is possibly my barn floor putting slightly more pressure on one side of the sled thus changing the camber--again another illusion I’m hoping.

Could someone please PM me with the "proper" way to set ski toe. Do you put a bungi on the tips and pull them in? hang free? setting on the floor?, etc, etc. I do know that I do NOT have a long enough straight edge to run along the track up to the ski's--other than a 2x4 or lumber.

* slightly pull tips in to take up slack
* Measure 10" front and rear of ski mounting bolt mark skis
* sled on ground, push down on rear bumper, push down on front bumper (ideal IF someone could be sitting on sled)
* adjust skis so 1/4" toe out at measurements (front measurement is 1/4" longer than the rear measurement)
* this is done by loosening both of the jam nut on each end of the tie rod (one is backwards thread on EACH tie rod) once all four jam nuts are loose turn tie rod to lengthen or shorten tie rod(s) to get desired measurement
* make sure handle bars are straight
* re-measure skis
* make adjustments with tie rod
* re-measure skis
* make sure handle bars are still straight
* secure jam nut on outside of both tie rods
* secure the jam nut on the inside of each tie rod.

That's the basics..... (of dart free riding! lol)

Can you please elaborate on this part....

Picture is worth 1000 words!

These should help you to be able to understand what I mean by 10" in front of and behind ski mounting bolt.

so my question is and i know you prolly dont know. but if there is an updated part somewhere along the line will it be a free update from yamaha or will we have to purchase that part

looking on the forums looks like problems with subframes, handwarmers, spindles, left foot wet. but other than that i think everyones happy with the power :4STroke:

IMHO
For the average to even aggressive rider there is NOT a problem with the front end!

BUT!
Just like the Revs nun (I only use that because I am familure with it) WHEN the sled hits something that it shouldn't hit OR really big, very hard pounding then yes it'll show some 'deflection'.

Do I think Yamaha is going to OR should they fix everyones sled IF we bend them... NO I do not!
I think IF these sleds are driven as they were designed and we don't hit/catch anything they will last. I have been extremely hard on my sled and even wrecked it once. I was in less than 4" of fresh snow over frozen ground (read VERY hard surface) and I barely have any deflection and it happens to be on the same side that impacted the ground while flipping @ 35 mph!

No they are NOT INDUSTRUCTABLE!

For those that don't know our sleds are being set up for a 2000 miles cross country race where not only can we not afford to bend things there are NO Yamaha shops to go get parts IF we were to hit something along the way! Attrition takes out 50% of the teams every year! Most of the time it's because the racers hit something. Our sleds are being set up to withstand an impact slightly better than a stock sled. There are no real secrets under there! We just don't care to expose what we have learned about these sleds or our set up to any of our competitors! Those that have seen different stages of our sleds please wait until Feb 10 and them post away... Until then please keep the pics to yourselves!
Thanks!

oh i agree if you hit something thats your own damn fault thanks for the pic and discription on measuring toe on the skis prolly do that this weekend

At first I thought it was just my lower A-arm, but after the install of the new front side, I saw it didn't fix the problem of a vert. spindle. After a closer look I saw the Front Frame (Clip) was bent as well. I'm on the Back order list as well. This is not fun with all this snow we have now. :o|

Red lines for bent angles.
Green lines for original angles.
