My sled, 03 RX1, runs 180-195 degrees but it is blowing anti-freeze out the overflow tube. Any ideas why this is happening. I bled the system twice so according to Yamaha's procedure so I don't think I have an airpocket. I added two quick connects in September to hook up cool down cart and recently I added a temp gauge so I have been in the system twice but this problem requires I add coolant all the time to keep the system to the full cold line. Could it be the pressure cap is bad. Thanks for any suggestions.

sorry

Sorry about the double post, didn't see my first post . I guess you have to exit out and back to see what you just posted, I feel like a Rookie again.

If you blow a head gasket, it will push the air and anit-freeze back in the system and out the bottle....does it do it all the time...or just in low snow.

How much are you adding? I found myself adding coolant to my sled after every ride about 1/4 to 1/2 inch at the cold line. Stopped adding 1 time and found out that was just the level that my sled wanted to run at. Never lost another bit. Don't know if you are losing a little or alot, this might help though.

anti freeze

Hi Mr Sled

I was worried this could be a head gasket, this is what it does.......it blows some anti-freeze out until the level drops and then it seems to stop, so it doesn't do it continuously. However, I let it sit and without adding more anti-freeze, (the level was between empty and "full when cold" line,) I ran it for a few minutes, 100 mph runs , until the temp came up to 180+ and when I shut it off some more came out...not much, the tank was almost full when I shut it down but when the sled cooled the level dropped to the bottom. One more thing, when I started it between runs the temp went up to 200+ then down to 150 within 2 seconds, almost like an air bubble was there or something. I hope it is not a head gasket, how do I check for that?

the 03s seemed to spit out coolant if you tried to keep it at the full line when cold. if it showes 1 in. or so in the bottle when cold, then its ok.

could be an air bubble...but like grader said only keep 1" of coolant in the bottle and then keep a close eye on it. If you had a bad headgasket, I would think it would keep overheating and it would pump more air into the cooling system.
