Anybody have a Reverse Issue??? Still Works But.....

I have a mountain lite and reverse is a issue. Since day one it does not always engage and the indicator and beeping light do indicate not full engagement. so with the machine knowing it is not in gear I see that it was engineered to know it is not in gear and to tell us it is not in gear. My response has always been to push my weight forward or backward and every time it works. It has not gotten worse and many times it does not do it at all. I now have 822 miles so I am not exactly sure if it needs to be dealt with. Maybe the servos are tripped and trying to engage the gears but gear alignment is not has not been accomplished till the rocking to move drive gear to align. I did call Yamaha and report this problem along with severe icing of the tunnel with pants froze to side. Also steering accumulating ice and range of steering reduced. They paid for my tunnel panels and were very helpful. They told me to have the dealer look at the reverse issue and as far as the steering accumulating ice, well they said they never heard of that happening, at least in US. I know Yellowknife had same problem in Canada.

my tech Ace at colorado power sports thinks the dead button could be related to a high idle speed. this makes sense in my situation because when the sled is cold or just coming off the trailer the idle is high and the button is dead. 30 minutes later things are working for the most part. he dropped my idle speed down a little bit and i'll test it out tomorrow... could be a quick fix. makes some sense to me, can anyone out there with the dead button confirm or post your idle speed after cold start? the guys at co power have been working with a tech from yamaha on this.

You know JP, this might be right.
I have never had an issue bigger than jumping up to engage the reverse.
I also have kept my idle speed at the lower end of the limits.
Can't say for sure, but mine works even in the extreme cold, although I don't dare even try to move the track, on a stand or a stump, untill the sled is warm enough for the rpm to drop.

My dealer called me today and told me to bring in my fx. They have gotten a service bulletin from yamaha-scandinavia about this issue and yamaha told them to change the gear oil from what they earlier had recomended (the same as in owner's manual) to Mobil1, 0-40W, fully syntetic regular engine oil. This should help on the "mechanincal" reverse issues.

Will bring it to them next week so if this works I will let you know then.

i had the same issue with my fx a dead button talked to my dealer and they talked to yamaha yamaha said that there could be something wrong with the tps sensor the service manual says that the reading should be anywhere from 15-20 at idle and anywhere from 95-100 at full throttle mine was set at 16 from the factory and wouldnt work i moved it to 13 and works fine but iam going to still get this addressed with my dealer as this is still not right according to the service manual these # show up on your machines self diagnostics that are built into your pod every body that owns any machine i believe should have a factory service manual they are only about 60 dollars and are very useful

I just picked up an FX with 730 miles..Goes into reverse everytime..sometimes you gotta give alittle wobble or shakey, but it goes in..no biggie. :yam:

My mountain would not go into or out of reverse because of a high idle. You could push the button all day and it would not work until it came off high idle. Over 3000 rpm or close to that and it would not try to shift. I adjusted the idle down and it has worked since. Still have to rock the sled sometimes, but she works ;)!

There is a post a couple of pages back from a seemingly informed gentlemen who mentioned that..Note to all, if your phazer is at high idle, don't shift into reverse!!!!!! If your phazer is idling too high, adjust it and then shift into reverse! The system is actually SAFELY working by not going onto reverse at times.. :yam:
