Any of you guys setting up for asphalt? This crappy winter is over for me and spring is just around the corner. I don't want to get a divorce, so I need to get into it on the cheap.
How well will a stock machine perform? An asphalt track and some wheels is all that I want to buy.
How many wheels will I have to run on the back?
I'm prepared to make a cooler cart.
Thanks,
Kevin

Will be doing the asphalt with a stock Apex as well. I will be running a Wahl rear skid, but I could give you location/amount of wheels that I ran on the grass for a reference on the stock skid. I can also supply wheel kits as well. Let me know if I can help you out.

I wasn't aware that they had a whole lot of mountains in the Appleton area. Did I miss something when I was there? LaLaLa

as with him, I have newborn, going to move this summer and dont want to be divorced. but spent tons of money. I want to do this on a budget. cheap as possible!!! any help on skid prep, wheel kits, track and cool down cart would be appricated!!!!

I will have the 06 Attak and the SRX, both running mid 9's this year.

Rapeape - If you can find a used track, 15 x 121 and a set of used skis, the rest is simple, and if done right, can only cost you under $1,000

I'll be doing it as well. Last year was my first and I had a blast.

Things you'll need:
1 or 2 small wheel kits
remove the hyfax
asphalt track 121x12 works best when starting out
asphalt skis
leather jacket and gloves
leather pants are a good idea, and most tracks require them if you go over 120mph.
cool down cart (I used a cooler, 12v billage pump and garden hose from wal-mart) and car battery to run pump
quick connect fittings to tie into the coolant system somewhere (I bypassed the rear cross over tube and connected with hose across the back bumper)

after that, it's pretty much spend what you want. clutch parts, light weight, etc. Watch the for sale forum on Amsnow. Lots of asphalt stuff over there. If you need any help, just ask.

just to run a 121x15 track you'll want a small set at the bend in the rails. proabably a set or 2 back farther where they won't interfear with the suspension. I'm not sure where they would fit on the mono. The more the better though.

Shortly I'll begin re-assembling my asphalt 03 RX-1.
Power is coming from a Procharger supercharger.
Similar to what we use on our mid/low 6 second race car.. allthough alot smaller :)
I have my cams all designed, just need somebody to build them. CP is making me a set of custom pistons to my specs. I have my new intake manifold all drawn up for the EFI system. Just got to go cut up the metal and weld it all together. Since I'm retro fitting EFI (our own custom design) on this sled, not using 4 throttle bodies.. just a single 75mm off a 5.0l Mustang. Much cheaper/easier that way. Still tossing the idea around of putting a distributor on the engine instead of using the COP system. Opens the door for much better ignition systems.
Sort of worried about the rear skid and bearing issues when running 175+ MPH.. not to mention the track not exactly rated above those speeds.

Goal is 600+ HP and all my modelling shows it's possible, but real world will probably put the thing 550-575HP. If I can put 225+HP to the ground, we're good to go in the 7's. That is the hard part.

TO KEEP THE WEIGHT DOWN I'M PLANNING ON STICKING A ROCKET ENGINE UP MY ASSS AND KNEALING ON MY SKATE BOARD. :tg:
