Anyone else have a driveshaft problem on a Vector

I was just checking on Yamaha Sports Plaza's website, comparing part numbers for driveshafts and it looks like they used the same driveshaft in RX, RS, and Apex models up till 09, the Nytro I checked was different also!

I wonder if the 09 Apex Driveshaft is stronger than previous models? Something to consider! ANY FEEDBACK?

'09 nor '10 will NOT fit on '03 to '08, '09 won't fit on '10 either..., '09 & '10 are LONGER due to extra bearing in chaincase and '10 has same bearing set-up as '09 but LARGER diameter shaft...so I think YAM knows that they have a WEAKNESS at that level of the drive system! ;):D

Excellent Feedback!

By accident and "lack" of E-Bay knowledge I ended up with 2 driveshafts so if any body needs one let me know.
I really don't think that I need a spare!
Sled is all fixed and ready to go, all we need is snow!

What model will it fit and how much?

Just got back from Northern Maine and I met one of the top rated Yamaha mechanics in the US ( fifth overall)
I was talking to him about the driveshaft issue and he said that its the build up of ice in the tunnel that causes the breakage!

Buddy just broke his on his 07 Apex less han 3000 miles same spot. Twin I make take that shaft if in the next few days i decide to try and fix my warrior. Maxdlx

Sorry, I returned the drive shaft to the E-Bay store that I purchased it from.
A side note to this problem is that I showed the broken shaft to several people and the common belief is that it is a heat treating problem causing the shaft to snap.
It is a clean break and to my untrained eye could not be caused by ice.

I second that tought...they all break at the same place and almost same milage...

My front driveshaft snapped this morning in the same place yours did. My 2005 Vector has 13,600 miles on it. I was moving about 50 miles an hour and hit my brakes to slow down for a corner and there was nothing there. I thought the chain case chain broke until I got it home. Only the 2nd day of vacation too. I called the dealer and mine wasn't one that was recalled. thing that stinks is the stator failed about 3 weeks ago. Still love my Vector!

i talked about it to cr on sledtalk,he told me he was gonna investigate a little,if he forgets,i'll remind him on the next post, never know,he might be able to help us,i broke mine on my ol warrior at 10 000 miles cpl years back, also got towed by a doo, fixed it all up and a week after i put a stud thru the front exchanger, grrrr, that was the first time that my sled left me stranded, but it still shouldnt happen

So....I'm pulling my skid, track etc to weld the front exchanger......should I replace the shaft? 7500 miles on the sled.

That would be a good plan. I've heard about many of these north of the border.
