Art,
I installed a Zex Bottle heater that I bought on ebayfor $94 with shipping. Installed in about an hour and it gets really hot. I filled it up the other day. Host bottle was at 70 degrees and sled bottle was about -10 or -20 degrees. When I started the sled, the pressure was only at about 450psi. Most likely because the sled bottle was soooo cold.
I turned on the bottle heater and watched it rise on the controller. In about 5 - 7 minutes it rose to 660 psi. I shut the sled off at that point but it was still rising. I did see some pressures over 800 out on the lake when I had it on for a while.
Also, I noticed that if you run 4 runs back to back with a 5 or 6 second blast, bottle temp drops (a lot) and it takes a few minutes to catch back up.
I dont know why boondocker doesn't give you HUGE orifices and run it on a regulator set at about 250psi. That way, pressure to your nozzles would stay constant and you could size the orifices and fuel accordingly.
Is that how Holtzman and Boss do it? Seems to me that is the only way to do it without heating the bottle.
With Boondocker, you could install (4) nozzles with five holes each and set a pressure regulator to 300 or 400psi. That way, you would almost never need a bottle heater and you would get close to 50 HP all of the time. Problem is, you'd have to spend more $$$.
I'm thinking about doing that upgrade next year...(4) 5 HOLE NOZZLES, ADJUSTABLE REGULATOR, AND...BAMMMMM

Hi Wayne, I ordered the ARC heater from www.mpsracing.com. It has a pressure sensor to maintain pressure at 900 psi. As long as it comes in tomorrow or Thursday I'll have it installed for the weekend and will let you know how it goes.
I originally bought the Synergy system from Boondocker which is supposed to do just what you describe (and Holtzman and Boss do) but they don't have the control boxes programmed for it yet, so I ended up taking the adjustable regulator off and just going with the standard box. I really like having the precise fuel control that Boondocker gives I don't want to "turn a screw" to adjust fuel, but can definitely see the advantage to a regulated system. No biggie, I figure with the heater I'll be all set and will keep the adjustable regulator and send my box in to have it reprogrammed when they have it ready.

Sorry just my opinion...sell that Boondocker kit on ebay!! Next year run a Holtzman kit!
A FROSTY HOLTZMAN bottle is good!! It's nitrous sprayers are the regulators and always spray at 300psi. So the bottle can be 1100psi in the summer or 400psi in the dead of winter, it'll always HIT the same. Same goes for a HALF full bottle.....

The $149 heater is less than I would have lost by selling a used kit on eBay and purchasing a new Holtzman, so this will work out better for me. Plus I already have the Boondocker regulator, so as soon as they have the program for the box I'll have a regulated system. I really like the control the Boondocker box gives.

Usually Munising or the Soo. Have a place in St. Helen but just not enough snow last few years. When there is I can easily put on 150 miles on the back roads and never touch the trail. Heading up to Munising Sat, but from what I've heard it's not much better than it was 2 weeks ago.

Yea,
I hear ya...but, tuning is superb with the boondocker....and, I know I am getting the full HP (As long as I have enough pressure).
Bottom line is....need bigger orifice to if pressure is less. That's why I may add 2 more nozzles next year. Therefore, I would get 100HP at full pressure or 50HP at 300psi!!!
That's If I don't blow her up this year

Wayne, I installed the ARC heater from www.mpsracing.com and it worked out fairly well. With the heater on I saw 700 psi at one point and we were riding in single digit temps. I think it was just too cold for the heater as it never hit 900 psi - it has a 900 psi pressure switch. In the teens or low 20's it would probably hit 900 psi. But it did absolutely make a difference. I also installed the 40 HP jets with the fuel set to +55 it didn't over-rev but hit much harder than with the 30 HP jets with the fuel at +45.
We're going up again Feb 24-27 and I'll try it with the 50 HP jets and the fuel set at +65. The 40 HP hit pretty hard and was enough to freight-train all mu buddies. Now that they all know I have the system, I'll put the box on the dash and watch the pressure and fuel while using the button.
I really like the control the Boondocker box gives over the fuel, but IMHO anyone considering nitrous needs to get the regulated set up from Boondocker or just go with the Holtzman or Boss kit.

Art,
Nice picture of the bottle heater. My heater is much larger. It covers the bottle from clamp to clamp and wraps all of the way around. Seems to be working great. I haven't had much chance to use the Nos lately. Mostly trail riding.
BIG snow up here in certain parts of Upsate New York. I live 60 miles from the edge of Tug Hill. I have about 5 inches of snow. Tug Hill area 5 - 7 feet. Did some nice powder/drift riding in the Buffalo area friday. It was awesome!!!

Does that heater have a pressure regulator or do you just have to keep an eye on it?

No,
It is thermostatically controlled. It has a regulating snap disc type thermostat and a snap disc type "hi-limit" thermostat in case the first one fails. I think they are "factory set" at about 75 - 80 degrees.
