All I've done for mods on my '11 standard Apex is Dupont slides, SnowTrackers and studs, other than that I'm not doing anything else to it besides routine maintenance. It just doesn't need anything else! Gas and go....I spent every year dumping money for mods and wrenching on my Viper, I'm done with that. Fuel injection and no more cleaning carbs every season...

Not a typo, A long story short, to slow everybody down so they can control there sled and stop bitching, whining and complaining about handling. and get back to enjoying Snowmobiling! Race tracks are for racing, trails are for enjoyment.

Well said. The biggest scares of my life have been MotoCross wanna bee's on the trail. They love to take my corner in the blind turns. I'm dam lucky so far one of them hasn't creamed me.I did have one catch my ski last season. I don't go out Saturdays as that's the worst day for them to be on the trails going nuts. Lucky I live here and can go week days or early in the morning. They don't get up early it seems. Did I mention about the huge holes they leave Brrp..Brrrp...etc. I'm ranting because I had a too close encounter with one last ride..I gave him the finger. Trail rage..Ha.

When from Ape to ProR Switchback this season. Road my GT for 4 seasons and would buy a 2015 "tank" today if I road groomed trails. That's what this chassis was designed to due is ride big wide trails faster than anything out there and it does it better than anything else out there...and is dead nuts reliable to boot!
The "trails" I ride and "ditch banging" I do to get to them...and I use both of those terms extremely loosely...
The 4 strokes are getting there, but the 2 strokes are a lot less tiring if you ride the beat up trails.
My opinion only, of course.

I love mine too! I also love the motor and am quite happy with the power it makes. When I wear this one out I'd buy another just like it. Awesome sled.

Whats the real world power difference between the ProR 800 Switchback and Apex?

Frozesolid you couldn't of said it any better, that's what the apex is a highway runner, I too get a little worn by the days end if I'm in tight beaten trails all day here in the central parts but the return the apex gives me up in northern Ontario and Quebec is priceless to me, do most of my riding up there
My next sled will be an apex unless they come up with something next year that I like, I got to have that sweet sounding 4 cly,

I love my apex now, 4th season riding it took two seasons to get it to go around a corner, last year really got it tuned to handle and this year just enjoying the ride! My yammers have always been like an old dog " you take them out in the woods and they just keep bring you home" the 4 stroke fit and finish, reliabilty and that R1 motor just flat out sounds great! I will only own a Yamaha no matter how cross bread it becomes!

After all these years I finally bought a used Attak GT. It was more of a financial thing with me.....priorities. I wanted a 4 stroke but I could never spend 12-13 G on a sled that I put maybe a thousand miles on a year. Some friends had them and I had spent some saddle time on them but now that the prices were coming down on used ones and I finally pulled the string. I had my money down on a nice used 2007 Apex GT in the UP at Pat's but after I rode it I knew there was going to be some coin going into it. The short track spun like crazy and it darted like hell. Good for me he had just taken in this super clean 2007 Attak GT and I mean CLEAN!!! One ride and I knew this is what I wanted and I bought that. We did 650 miles in four days up there and I rode it like I stole it. I was not a bit sore or worn out. It was my first saddle time of the season being I sold the old 2 smoker Viper in December. So all of this....."it wears me out"......I guess I don't know what anyone is talking about. Maybe I am just in shape being I ride mountain bikes and lift weights at 50 years old......I don't know. I love the longer track Apex sleds. Go ahead Yamaha and improve on them......just don't get rid of the Apex!! They are too good!!
No offense to the new Viper owners, I have ridden them. They have a more rider forward feel. But the motor is half the equation and for whatever reason the motor in the new Viper feels flat to me. IMHO it felt more lively in the Nytro than it does in this sled. I feel like I am riding a under powered sled (for me) when I squeeze the flipper on them. I have posted it many times on Yamaha's FB page with zero response. No one can answer why they don't have the throttle response in the AC chassis.
As for the 1200 Doo, I think Doo has a pretty decent machine. The R-motion is a key point for sure. The 1200 can run good if you spend a couple G's on it. But why?? Why do I have to pour money in it. Why can't Ski-Doo make an HO version? Plus I think their clutches suck, their belts are over priced like everyone elses.....but Yamaha's. Their chassis is light and guess what?? .....it can't take too much a hit either. Their bulkheads tear apart quite easy. So there is a price to pay for lightness.
If you are an off trail rider or a ditch banger then NO, don't but the Apex. It is not for you. But there are plenty of us that this machine fits the bill.

journeyman; noone gets worn out on the trails up by Pats on the yamaha. It is the tight twisty trails in wisconsin and areas like that that wear people out.try putting on 250 miles around eagle river with a non eps apex and you will feel it. being in shape is a big help but that front end weight will get to you. That said the power steering fixes all that too. love my apex and if they do decide to stop making it at least it will run for ever and i wont have to get a new one.

Apex is faster on top end...nothing pulls hard than that 4 banger...anyone with seat time on an ape will tell you that. 0-60 it'd be close...who ever hooks up better would win. They are close, power wise.

I used to ride only Northern VT and Quebec where the Apex is the best sled possible.
Now that I have kids I find myself riding around the house which are about the twistiest trails possible. I get tired tossing around the Apex. Sold mine a month ago and looking for something lighter. It's hard to get over 50 MPH on these trails. Thinking a 500-600 might fit the bill.

Yes and no. We rode trail 13 behind Pat's twice. Full of twisties, plus we did the Rosseau to Alston up to the entry by Twin Lakes (very twisty), and we did the stretch to the Freda Dam full of twisty trails. Yeh I hear ya running up and down trail 3 is a railroad bed. That's is nothing. The 4 of us all had Attak's, one was the 40 yr. 2008, my buddy with that machine and I did have to wait for the other two quite often. Mike and I are very seasoned riders. We can ride with the best of them.
I am sure I will get to test it out in Wisconsin too. My work buddy has a cabin in Winter and I ride there normally once a year towards Price County.
