i agree LB, i got 230 miles on my sled and had the exact opposite of to much ski pressure, and it was set at max transfer the whole time

No. The x-fer rod adjustment allows the amount of limit the front of skid will drop out, in turn directing the amount of height the skiis will go. It has zero effect on ski pressure while skiis are on the ground.. That is determind by front ski spring preload, and center skid preload. There is no center preload adjuster on the mono. On any other susp, you can tighten the center shock spring to take some weight off the skiis. Mono has no center shock.
The lack of center track force negatively effects traction in loose snow..and makes turning the sled require more handlebar effort.

Its always been my experience that when the skis go high, there is ZERO PRESSURE, and when they go low, there is HIGH PRESSURE.X-APE said:directing the amount of height the skiis will go.

Whenever you are applying power, the skid will shift into "high transfer". The whole point of transfer is that the FORCE OF THE ENGINE will push down on the front of the rails (will do what you seem to think that only a center spring can do). Think about where the track goes. You put forward tension on it, and it will PULL the back of the rails UP and FORWARD. The FORWARD pressure on the rails will cause the FRONT to extend down, hence reducing pressure on the skis.

It does, but only while accelerating. When your cruising at a relatively constant speed with the transfer rod not sitting at either end of travel and the limiter strap with some slack in it there is nothing that can be done to adjust the ski pressure with a mono-suspension. There is a virtual pivot point approximately mid skid and the weight is distributed as a function of this point, the ski pivots and the center of mass for the sled and rider.
On traditional suspensions the ratio of the center to rear spring preload can be used to adjust the cruising ski pressure.
I'm still very happy with the performance of my 05 RX-1's mono-suspension, but I could see how some could be unhappy with the predefined and non-adjustable crusing ski pressure.

And what does that have to do with racing in a straight line on a lake? (the topic of this thread)

Dave583, Tell me this , why would I keep you on this site with the little respect that you have for us Mods and Admins....

Bench racing is just silly. In the right hands X sled can be fast. In the wrong hands it could be a Turd.
My guess is the Mach should beat the Apex. It's the same weight and makes 20 more HP. In the right hands it is probably the fastest production sled ever.

Just trying to respond to X-APE's complaint on the heavy front end...

Why are we talking about too much ski pressure in this thread to start with...
Should be here:

According to the track dynos, the difference in power is negligible.

I'm not one to bash another brand but after Super Daves post I need to give my first impression of a Mach Z. There is something about the look of this sled that is very unappealing, especially the side view. Nothihg on the Z is perportioned right. The hood and side panels look too bulky, seat looks too low, foot boards look too low, look of the bars and guages is awfull in comparison to any Apex. My five year old could design a better looking sled. And thats only the look of the thing. Once I started it up it felt like a flash from the past. I haven't smelt that stink in three years and have never felt so much vibration up through the bars before. Hope those big twin owners have good dental work or it could be a painfull winter. It was all flat road so I can't comment on the ride but the response of that 170hp twin is now where near that of Yamaha's fuel injected inline four. The think didn't even sound like a two stroke, it had a dull almost lean sounding drone. And the one I seen wasn't even fast. One thing I will say, the color is nice[just needs a chrome shield]. Just my 2 cents
Fuel injection is sweet but i'd rather be BLOWN!!!!!!!!!!!
