After really looking at my sled ive noticed alot of changes compared to my warrior... BUT NOT ALL GOOD!

Yamaha talks about the places where they removed weight but not where they added it!

I see there is no exhaust sheilds on the APex! (less weight)

There is TWO coolant resivoirs on the apex (added weight)

No hood (less weight) but had to add large bracket to hold headlight (added weight) Guages appear heavier(added weight)

Lighter skis (less wieght) Piggy back shocks (added weight)

Smaller tunnel coolers (less weight)... but had to add a small radiator and fan (added weight)

Anyone else notice anything i missed?

Im really curious to know exactly how much my GT actually weights!

I think Yamaha did a good job of dropping weight and adding features. The seat. and seat storage are definately heavier, as ar the bar riser, and radiator but good additions. But there are a lot of places weight came off according to magazines and web site, engine is 7lbs lighter, batter and aluminum bracket 5 lbs lighter, I can tell the tool kit is lighter maybe 2 lbs, hood is a lot lighter, no need for rear heat exchanger because of radiator, My guess is they took off a lot of weight and added some back on for a total loss of about 10-12 lbs plus the 05 RX-1 was 30-35lbs lighter than the original. But after riding the Apex last year the sled feels a lot lighter because of the rider forward and centered mass. :yam:

skis

"Lighter skis (less wieght)"

Were there actually any changes to the skis? I thought they were the same as previous year RX1's.

Play the weight game....... add or subtract how you may, but when I "try" to lift the front or rear of my Attak, she is heavier than any other sled that I've owned over the last 35 years. I'm just hoping that it feels lighter under way and when I do stick it, hope my buds are near for support.

Compared to 04 skis they are lighter... the 05s have the same skis!

Just read a report out of sno-west,they compared the 900 fusion,900cat,and the apex all mountain sleds of course, out of the seven riders that tested them they all said if they were buying a new sled with there money it would be the apex mountain, these riders are all aware that the apex weighs a fair amount more than the other two, they also said it was the easiest to manoeuvre through the trees, that says something coming from an enviroment where the sleds weight could be most evident....

Yes, but it's the only one you can bolt on a turbo.

You are correct about it feeling much heavier than other all 2-strokes, but its way lighter than the 03 it replaced,i can now pick up the front end with much more ease than before, and the rear end is lighter than my fusion, and i am not to sure, but i dont think the front end is all that much heavier than my fusion was and that did not have electric start.

Yes,i know it's the only one you can bolt a turbo on,that's another plus,i'm not bashing it i'm bragging it up if anything.

Piss and moan about the weight. You should consider a fan cooled two stroke.

Simply a fact....thats all! I didn't say it was a POS, all i said was that they are heavier.....why does that strike a nerve?

It wasn't directed at you. Furthermore, why is everyone talking about the weight? This subject regarding fourstroke weight has been on the burner since the start.

I feel that when they list a sled at 553 lbs that they should be forced to live up to that... Unfortunatly they do what ever they want!

Besides its a interesting conversation to me..

I wasnt bitching about it,,, just talking about an intersting subject!

I tell all my buddys not too worry about weither or not my sled is fast or handles well because it is just a big OL cement truck.. LOL
