Apex vrs Dragon 800

My buddy has an 09 dragon 800. I have an 07 rtx and we lined up last weekend. We were even for the first 50 yards then I went by him pretty easy.

;)! :jump:

Don't get overly excited yet. I ran about 15 runs (about 1000 feet)with my Dragon against my buddies 800R that was beating our stock Apexes last Year.

On just about every run his 800R would beat my Dragon by about 2 or 3 sled lengths. I won or "tied" him a couple of times.

Just for kicks, we switched sleds...he was riding my Dragon and I was on his 800R. We lined up and he KILLED me with my own sled by 8 lengths and still pulling away 4 races in a row. He weighs 180 lbs and I weigh 245 lbs. I guessing that if we had 2 guys that weighed the same my Dragon would have beat his 800R by at least 2 or 3 lengths and been pulling away. When he was on my Dragon and I was on his 800R he thought I was running the 800R half throttle because he beat me so bad. I honestly was running it as hard as I could and had no chance.

I had a pretty good idea how much I was losing by because I was behind almost every time.

Moral of the story...Wanna win the race, lose some weight!

P.S. Then we did two more runs on our own sleds, he beat me again by 2 or 3 lengths. He shut his sled off, it wouldn't start and I had to tow him home...lol :-o

Can't beat the reliability of Yamaha... :yam:

I dont like the sound of a big twin....usually the vibration...besides that white dragon to me is ugly....in black or red....might sway me some..

Take Stoutner's claims with a grain of salt (I ride with him). 1st I beat the 800R with my '06 Apex (ulmer stage2) countless times last year, everytime, till we went to Canada. In Canada we raced on a lake that 2 days before the snow was so deep the 800R got stuck just trying to cross it, so during our races the lighter 800R would get on top of the snow and scoot right on by. 2nd during the trip I had a vibration throughout my tunnel that turned out to be a shot speedo bearing which killed my speed. Stoutner was even beating me with his apex which I always hammered on because it wasn't clutched right. He did tow the 800R home the other night but it was just a wiring harness the dealer forgot to reconnect during the pre season maintenance. Two sides to every story. Im sure all the sleds will be close.

That is pretty funny. What was the first thing you said last night after you got off my sled?

I think it was something like "Wow! That thing hammers!"

....O.K. Ask Scott Cashion (Blurred Vision) about my buddy's 800R. He'll tell you how it cracked his "fast" semi-stock Apex and gave his Supercharged Apex a little bit of a race also.

He is running a resistor on his air box sensor and maybe some clutching...that's it as far as I know.

Hey guys. Well this 800 doo that wayne is talking about was fast the day at lecabineau probally do to lots of snow, not hard packed but very loose. My apex is 100% stock. Nothing done to it. My wife drives this sled. My x supercharged apex did have a bit of competiton from the doo, but that was do to lots of snow. The light doo just rides on top and goes as the apex pushes through. The worst condition to race the apex on. But yes this doo was impressive. Put the two on hardpacked and say bye bye to the doo. Will see you in a couple off days wayne and we can line up my stock apex hopefully in good conditions and see what happens. lol See you their and we will try not to get to drunk this time. :drink:
