apex with 23 top gear on radar!

if going to 22 top on '06, i have been told(by Ulmer) you need a shorter chain(68 link)

yes this is true...22/38 uses a 68 link chain with a 1.73 ratio...while a 23/38 uses a 70 link with a 1.65 ratio.....while a 24/38 also uses a 70 link with a 1.58 ratio............a 24/40 uses a 70 link with a 1.67 ratio.

I still cannot beleive the 07 has 22 top.....Im wondering what kind of radaring th 07 will do?...i cant see it being as fast on gun....but on the other hand IF you have traction it should haul the mail on bottom end..i guess its what yammie is wanting from the rtx as the GT and ER still have 24/38 gearing.

I have a 40 bottom gear which is basically the same gear ratio the 23 top is, and ran a best of 123 on radar. 1/2 mile, 192 trail studs, stock track, and ride height. Totally stock clutching with exception of white secondary spring and machined primary and helix. Ill take that anyday...BBY
I have to agree with BBY. I have almost the exact same setup as he does with very similar results. My GT flat out halls!

Havent tried the overdriven primary i have along with my 23 top,but with stock cut primary and now 23,or should i say shorty vrs attak skid length,it is much quicker and faster top end wise,110 gps on wet sloppy snowy rr bed last march, but only 109 gps on bare ice long lake runs, motor very hot severals times plus slides sticky, but when things get going this year it should run up to 120 with stock clutch, and one i have set up for overdrive to compare so we will see the differance.Oh ya it ran 114 gps as the attak now its an apexER so it should be better.

What top gear is in the 07 apex? I see ulmer sells the 23 top gear for 35 bucks which seems decent. I'm also considering the anti rub kit from ulmer which looks like a must.

2007 RTX comes with 22/38 gearing combination which requires a 68 link chain (23/38 & 24/38 use a 70 link). I can get any top gear for $35, but I usually just stock the 23's. Stock 07 RTX with our Stage 2 clutch kit and windage plates on 1/2 mile run 113.9 gps (clutches were fully shifted out). The speedo showed 128.

gearing

mark the 07 and 06 apex's have the same gearing 24-38 except for the 07 rtx and 07 gt.

2006 Apex ER, RTX, GT = 24/38

2006 Attak = 23/38

2007 Apex ER, GT = 24/38

2007 Apex RTX = 22/38

2007 Attak & Attak GT = 23/38

My apex gt has reverse. I seem to recall that you are limited to gearing changes. Is it possible to run 22/38 gearing?

22/38 will work on reverse also. Reverse is only particular to which bottom gears are available. Any top gear will work correctly with reverse as long as you have the correct length chain to go with it as well.

All Attaks have reverse and mine has 22/38 gearing. Yes, the shorter chain was used too.

Gear & Chain Charts with costs of components in .jpg format and .pdf formats. This would be for all Apex/RX/RS platforms.

Charts will be reposted. Entered the wrong chain length for several gearing combinations. Too many numbers to type!!

07 will smoke the stock 06

Gentlemen,

My brother and I have ran the 07 RTX against my 06 GT and the gearing makes a substantial difference all through the powerband. It is almost hard to believe. We also have an 06 RTX and a 06ER that we ran against just to make sure the GT was running ok because the difference was that big. I have changed my gear and chain to match the 07 RTX.
