I have a 2014 Apex XTX in for service and it's making a noise. I happen to have a second Apex here that doesn't make the noise. It sounds like the PTO counter balance shaft bearing. Is it serviceable.
I'm also not ruling out the one way starter clutch as it also needed a new starter. Is there a quick check for the starter clutch.
After an oil change it is a bit quieter but the noise is still present.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks

I pulled the side cover off the pto stub. The bearing feels good and there's no play. When I spin it to freewheel it there is a little noise. I think it's a noisy bearing. I had to replace the starter so that has me wondering about the one way bearing on the starter clutch

It could be starter gear. How many miles on it?I pulled the side cover off the pto stub. The bearing feels good and there's no play. When I spin it to freewheel it there is a little noise. I pulled the starter out and spun the starter clutch gear. It moves freely and no noise.

Super tough one. Really hard for me without actually standing next to the machine to listen. I was hoping Allen would jump in on this.I pulled the starter out and spun the starter clutch gear. It moves freely and no noise.

When I listen to clip, right around the 7sec mark as you move in towards the PTO shaft, I swear I could hear a slight bearing rattle that gets hard to hear as you move away from getting up close to it and going to the other side of the machine.

I can't tell exactly where that's coming from either. There is a ball bearing on the inside of the PTO shaft as well, it's possible it's coming from that bearing. The only way to remove and check is to pull the whole engine because you can't remove the complete shaft assembly without removing the water pump assembly.

Hard to tell but I had a similar noise and ended up being a cracked flex pipe making a tapping almost noisy valve sound coming up from the exhaust... which had new donuts and Ulmers stainless pipe.

To me it sounds normal, no worse than mine anyway.
