APEX " Y " PIPES BREAKING & UNAVAILABLE

I'm hoping Yamaha comes out with both a better y-pipe (probably thicker material, possibly a material change) as well as new donuts.

My original donuts started to leak at around 4000 km (very very slightly) and were changed at around 5500-6000 km in January.

A couple of days ago I had my skid out to weld up a crack in the front pivot arm and looking at the y-pipe I could see a hairline crack about a 1/4" away from the donut on the 2nd from the mag side pipe.

Sure enough, I went for a 700 km ride yesterday and the exhaust went from a barely audible "tick" to an outright massively leaking exhaust system complete with extreme backfires every time I let go of the throttle.

I'm probably going to wait for now (season will be over very soon) and hope I can get some updated parts installed before next season.

I took mine apart last week to check donuts because of all the problems .All clamps and everything is like new and I have 6500 miles on it and I drive as hard as anyone.Am I alone or are there other sleds with high mileage out there without exhaust problems ???

I only have 2400 miles and pulled my apart today and they also look like new. I guess I'll still change them since it's apart, but it could have waited. It must have something to do with riding style and trail condition. Most of miles were on pretty smooth trails in northern Ontario.

Mine are all in Quebec!!! Great trails this year and still have lots of snow .170 miles yesterday on best trails that I can remember!!!

Just came back from doing over 1600 miles this past week and the sled has 5000 miles on it now and the exhaust is definitely leaking at the donut joint.

Had the sled running on the stand and you can hear it. Also my riding buddy commented on how my sled sounds different now.

Glad my season is over, have lot's of time to sort this out with the dealer under warranty!

From what I gather this exhaust issue IS
covered under the 3 year YES warranty???

Funny with how some of the issues on these sleds...some dealers are covering guys and some are not on the same issue. W arm is a good example. Some guys had 3-4 of them replaced under warranty. My dealer told me if mine broke it would not be covered because if your breaking it it's because your bottoming it out all the time. I know the dealer up in the UP where I ride would cover it though. He is way better to deal with for warranty than my local dealer here.

Never have had to deal with Yamaha direct. I just know to use my dealer up north for warranty...

with all the yamaha's I've owned...and it seems you as well....they will listen if you complain calmly and with firmness...

They have covered out of warranty items before for me because of good rational explanations and evidence....along with steady firm persistance...

As I mentioned to a couple people on here, I called Yamaha U.S. and explained to them my sled was waiting for a y-pipe that was backordered for at least a month, and I still had a few good weeks of riding. If it was end of season, I told him I wouldn't be calling, but I was going to miss some of the best riding of they year.

The person I spoke to called me back and said he found one for me and it would be at the dealer where my sled was within two days, and it was.

Yes, it was for me. Going back down for the other side now.

How many "kms" did it start acting up, on my '08 I it started around 5000kms and had to get them done at 5500kms 2 left in very bad shape and the 2 right ones where starting to leak so got all 4 replaced and I also got my chaincase gasket replaced it was sucked in and leaking...so I still think that '08 have issues left to be revised.

But overall I love the sled, I've packed her in for the summer with 6200kms this year its 1 of the best so far! I was still running last saturday afternoon, I put on 180kms in and around the Larose Forest...

Now the season is over with all the RAIN and mild weather

Over? There is lots of sledding left for April....

At my house we still have over 60 cm (25 inches) of snow everywhere.

Looking at the snow map (http://www.theweathernetwork.com/snow/indexON), there is still 150 cm (5 feet) of snow on the ground only an hour and a half drive North East from me (about an hour North from you).

I'll be sledding locally tomorrow and in Quebec (if its not raining too hard) on the weekend. The only problem is I haven't plowed the laneway to my barn this season and there are sections where the snow is still over 100 cm (3' 4") deep. The snow is so dense I don't know if my truck can plow it or make it through to get my trailer out (for the weekend). I might be forced to sled locally until we get more of a melt-down.
