I've read the different threads on this. Any short cuts? Do the headlight, battery, tray, ecu etc, all really have to come out to do a full oil and filter change? RR

Its no where near as bad as people make it out to be. I did mine in about 30 minutes when I had never done it before. Now I can let the oil drain and while it is draining have everything else apart to change the filter. Done and full of oil in about 20 minutes.

Ulmer Racing has a filter relocation kit for the A.pex. That might help

correct tools is the #1 shortcut..........the first oil change takes the first timer about 2 hours if you don't run into problems (stripping heads)

Correct tools, I agree 100%, 2 hours, lakercr and I are pretty close to breaking that record now on my Apex's first oil change and we found an easy way to get to the oil filter,,,,,,

Piece of cake..just follow ulmer racings instructions..

My dealer wanted $130 to do it.. i got the KN 204 filter so it will come off easier next time.

WOW! can you give me any tricks HOW TO cut down on time!

My best time is avg. 1.5 hours 2 guys that know what their doing...thats stripping it down, removing skid plate and changing oil filter and chaincase oil. :drink:

The biggest time saver is getting rid of those junk philips head bolts on the bottom panels. That will save a half hour in itself. The long metric t handles will save another 15 mins or so. Isn't it amazing how the right tools make any mechanics job easier?? Bullitt GT

Buy a cordless impact gun and all the sockets you need for the job. I have a Mikita, best tool I have ever purchased and my wife doesn't yell at me for how loud the air compressor is...I don't have a skid plate i have to remove so that save a little time.

the first time you do the oil & filter change is a little tricky, but now i can tear it apart in less than 20 min., i use the k&n kn204 filter it has a 17mm nut on the top of the filter, real easy to remove, i like the ulmer remote filter, but i'm afraid if you ever get into a small front collision it's going to be trouble

I've done mine 2 times so far. Actually I tore it down 3 times because I had a 10mm Olive green bolt left over. I can't figure out where it belongs or came from..

The 3rd time was to check to make sure I put the battery tray bolts back, head light pod 10mm's too.

The only 10mm Olive Green coated ones are the headlight pods (4) and down on the tray area. (2) right?

I feel stupid.. I put 100mi. on the sled since and it seems fine. I checked everywere for a missing bolt but cant find anything. I more work to it than just the oil filter change but the wolts were near the headlight pod were I layed them out. :o|
