That looks like the nuvi 2797. I used to run that with power cradle. I am now running drivesmart 61 which is also 7”.

The advantage is pinch to zoom, edge to edge screen and just better resolution. Just no specific ram mounts but the clip that goes to ball mounts

Yup, the two 7" Nuvi's I installed were 2797. There is a Garmin RAM cradle for the 2797, and it accommodates the Garmin power mount within it. They have held up fine on the trail. That looks like the nuvi 2797. I used to run that with power cradle. I am now running drivesmart 61 which is also 7”.

Keep in mind, buying the cradle is not sticking you to the garmin ball either. This has a diamond shapped mount on the back with holes for the ball, or just screwing into the glovebox extension. I only put a ball on the back when connecting it to a RAM ball arm. Like the back seat of our Polaris General, or when connecting to the riser on my apex.
With the Viper, I will screw that cradle right to this glovebox door.
The DriveSmart 61 should share dimension with another model that you could use a cradle for. I have not researched that one as they are just not as popular. What most of the guys I were setting GPS up with, liked touchscreen, but there is a difference between capacitive and resistive touchscreen. The biggest being you want to be able to touch with your glove on. This is no longer a car dash gps where your fingers are bare all the time.
If there is no cradle for the DriveSmart, you could go with one of the expandible cell phone holders. Those work out really well and strong.
Good luck!

I just did the dash caddy mod last night. Went pretty good. A little unnerving drilling a 3" hole only to find out the vent they gave you is 2.75". And then realize the 3" hole is just for air movement and the vent goes into the caddy.
Otherwise no issues. And I went from a 4" Nuvi to a 6" Garmin Nuvi like the one I have on my Apex. I mounted the cradle as high as possible as no to give as much clearance for the door and maintain view of the gauges and idiot lights.
Here are some before/after and progress pics.

Can you measure the opening length/width? Thank youHere's my GPS mounting. In a waterproof case with a 12v 5w heater to keep the display bright in the cold. Mount is from BOP.View attachment 165583View attachment 165584I'm glad you posted the dash caddy, I wasn't even aware it existed. Seems like a good option for extra storage. Thanks!

Been loving mine and even playing around with rear view cam. Got to figure out an always on though to make it true rear view at trail speeds. I will keep everyone in the loop if I get it figured out and am able to use instead of mirrors

How did you mount yours? Trying to figure out if I should use a heated pouch or a solid mount.

Update on the dash caddy. Love it. Easy install, perfect mount for gps. Run this for a couple hundred miles of junk trails and no mount or strength issues with caddy! Will be upgrading to zumo xt2 I think. 100% recommend.

Agreed, very solid unit that makes for a great mounting platform, plus one can add additional power points externally or internally. Plenty of storage for necessary tools, phone/camera or lunch. Whatever the need may be it will fit in the caddy as long as it's not rigid and bigger than a phone book.. crap that's a bad example... Most people don't know what a phone book is today....... As long as it's not bigger than a hard copy of Harry Potter!
