Just heard something... not sure if it's true, but is there going to be some refinements to the 05's motor to make a little more power?
Heard something about a different 'cam' design...???
Just wondering?

I think the carbs are a little bigger on the 05s. (Later)

I think if they had made motor improvements, they would be hyping it up and I haven't heard or seen anything. I agree that the 30 pounds and the new shorty skid design should make the 05 faster. Stock vs. stock.

Are the 05's going to be faster than the 03/04'3
Yes
But not due to any engine mods. Nothing planned last talk I had with Yamaha rep other than weight saving material use in some components.
New skid seems to roll easier and lead in angle may be changed by looking at it.
The 30 # diet will be major gain.

I talked with some contacts in Yamaha and there has been ZERO changes to the motor. Just weight loss.

Why would they change a great engine 8) No other manufacturer is even close in this category to force an improvement.
The next change for the motor will be EFI....................I hope

I think it's just the 30 lbs too.
No changes to the 05's motor as mentioned above, but there is a 30hp cam up grade from Yamaha to the bike that you could put into your sled as they do have the same engine.

  Maybe they put some good clutching in? that would help alittle and save some$$$$$ That would be nice of them since you guys figured out what to run for them.

bountyhunter, I believe you are wrong. As of '03 the part # for an R1 cam was the same as the RX1. I have a complete '01 R1 head here, the cams measure the same.

They retooled the R1 this year. Would the cam work in an 05 RX-1?
