Asphalt Results 2003 (RX1)

JT- Those MPH's are calculated at 10,200 engine rpm (8,466 clutch rpm, there's a 17% reduction). i think if he gears up to 23/38 you're gonna see the ET's get better. Right now I think the motor is just free wheeling going down the track on the top end. A little taller gear will make it grunt a little more and it shouldn't affect the 60' times at all.

Terry- I'll give you the notes that I have with the gearing info on it tomorrow night when you get to my place.

Hey everyone - Took a well deserved time off from work, and visited my relatives, and some friends. Matt, great meeting you, and will have to definetly hook up to do some trail riding in winter. Thanks for all the info you shared with me, I won't forget it.

Hey J - Heard you called Matt before I got there, I will talk to you this week.

Allen - I know how it gets, when things come up. I went fishing with my brother in law, and helped him with some repairs, so I had my shoes full. I will take a trip out that way again in fall, otherwise will meet up with you at Hay Days. Just email me that info you wanted to send me.

Hey Tooold - got your pm. I will be at the track again this Saturday at W.I.R. Got 2 NOS systems to install this week on cars, and get ready for Sat., but had to take a little break. W.I.R. had a special roundy-round race, so I took advantage of it.

Terry, not a problem, I'll shoot you an email later on this afternoon with a bunch of setup notes mostly involving the heel clickers. On Saturday we tested until I couldn't stand anymore (or at least it felt like it!) and then on Sunday I decided to go fishing instead! LOL Sometimes you just have to get away or you'll burn yourself out.

You should let us all in on these Heel Clicker setups. As most of us have had a hard time getting these dialed in. Thanks for the help

Sled-ed, I had posted a request to Srxspec for the Heelclicker setup in this same post (page 14) but did not receive a response. After doing so, I came to this conclusion and if it is right, I can see his point of view. You can probably group the tuners into two groups; one for recreational use and the other for racing. I bet most of the clutching tips posted on this forum, with the exception of Terry, are from ones doing it for recreational use. When you are racing, you always want to be ahead of the competition whether he is on an Artic Cat or another Yamaha. With that said, I can see why someone who has put a lot of time into dialing-in their clutch setup would not want to post it; why let the competition know of your findings. However, it would be nice to know what does and doesn't work with the Heelclickers. One of the "many" things I love about this site is the plethora of information sharing. This topic, in particular, is awesome because we get to see first hand what works and does not work.

Srxspec, if this is the case then I'll understand and that's fine. But if not, I too would certainly be interested in the Heelclicker setups and would appreciate any tips that you would be willing to pass along.

Hey Allen - That would be great! I hear you about getting away for a little bit.

Hey RobX-1 - I started with the HH's, thinking I would have a good hold on a good setup by now, and switch to the heel clicker's. I think Srxspec, (Allen) didn't want to give me a setup that works great in 600 ft., to use for the 1/4 mile, cause I would be way off. But, racing is a sport, and I can't force anything out of someone if they don't want to give it out. Don't think I am raising my voice, I apologize, cause I really am not. I do the same with my ATV racing, keep secrets that is. Allen races with a pro tree against people that are trying to get down the track as fast as they can. My racing is different, cause it is based on consistancy, and our tree is stagered to let the slower guy go 1st, not all at the same time, in Allen's case. But I think Allen can give us a good direction to head towards.

Nos-Pro, I had a feeling Allen raced sleds and that's why I did not press the issue. Also, I and I'm sure others would not expect you to force him to pass along the info to us or even for you to post what he tells you for that matter. Racing is racing and if you find something that is working for you, then by all means reap from those findings and don't let the cat out of the bag.

Did I understand you correctly in that you switched from HH to the Heelclickers? I will certainly have to keep abreast with your findings. Before the "great crash", there were all kinds of posts being posted about different Heelclicker setups. Fortunately, I created a Word doc in which I copied all the posts concerning the Heelclicker setups and general info. I think at the time, some of the posts were Work-In-Progress setups. It was my way of having the info at hand w/o having to go on-line and find the different posts. I'm sure you are being overloaded with an abundant supply of different setups so I'm not sure how much help it would be, if any, but if you or Sled-ed or anyone for that matter would be interested in that document, I can email it or better yet, post it on this forum. It also contains a lot of other post topics that I found useful.

Hey RobX-1 - I hear ya. I will try some heel clicker setups for sometime also, to see what we can come up with. I might go down to Great Lakes Dragway a couple more times than usual also. Sometime in late August or early September, will be modifying the sled for NOS, for the patient few that have been waiting for it. Talk to you all later. :D

Guys, I'll post the setup for heel clickers later on today.

Terry- I didn't get a chance to email you yesterday, I got 40 new files to start on yesterday, damn we're swamped at work. I was so deep in paper work yesterday I don't think I could've found my head from my.....well you get the point

FINALLY!!!!

ok guys, here's the DRAG setup we used last summer when we were using the 40-10 heel clickers.

Shoulder: 4 grams (allen head screw with four .5 g washers)
Middle: Empty
Tip: 7 grams (3.3 g allen head screw and four 1 g washers)
Primary Spring: Heel Clicker Red

Secondary Helix: 48/40 Advant-edge (52/44 Dalton)
Secondary Spring: Yamaha Silver wrapped at 80

Al...that does not work that great on snow. I have tried hc,s with the 48/40 advantedge & the 52/44 whatever & it acts totally different on snow. Gotta run more weight in the pivot & hardly any in the tip. I used a white hc spring with a 2.4 hh screw in pivot , .8 in tip with about 5 grams in heel with both thse helix,s. They kinda react similar due to the different cut. Just what i found out in the snow with a non-studded track & my fat #*$&@ on my rx-1!

By the way... I mean no disrespect but are you really & truthfully using that humungous red HC primary spring in the
RX-1? I am gonna ask Ronnie?

"ok guys, here's the DRAG setup we used last summer when we were using the 40-10 heel clickers."

Turk, that setup is not meant for snow. Grass or asphalt racing applications only. The snow setup is completely different and for drag racing applications, yes we did use the monster red spring and also had the weights notched for even more engagement, but we no longer race an RX-1. In the grass we needed the high engagement to try to get off the line better.

Hey Everyone - 7/19/03, A real bad day, lots of broken parts, and warning lights. 25+ head winds, 82 degrees, 48% humidity that climbed to 90%, sunny and turned stormy. (cancelled after 2nd round)
When am I ever going to get a break on head wind?

Open time runs - HH's with steel 3/8 in middle and tip (no washers) temp of primary was 152 degrees. Rpms were perfect at 10,100-10,200
1st - 1.558 60 ft. 6.959 1/8 11.252 @ 111.173
2nd - 1.574 60 ft. 6.971 1/8 11.250 @ 111.731

Scheduled time runs - HH's with 7/16 w/thick washer middle, 7/16 tip (wanted to get 60 ft. times back, and temps down.)
3rd - 1.516 60 ft. 6.972 1/8 11.319 @ 109.842

Went to 3/8 steel bolts with thick washer in middle and thin on tip
4th - 1.571 60 ft. 7.023 1/8 11.338 @ 110.760 (this run is where all hell broke loose in the rear suspension. 1 idler wheel bearing blew apart, and took another 1 with it.)

Round 1 - Went back to 3/8in middle and tip, no washers.
1.543 60 ft. 7.022 1/8 11.340 @ 110.314 (went sideways after 150 ft. and almost crossed center line. Other lane almost went into the grass. Got lucky, and won that round.)

Round 2 - Redlighted, same setup as round 1(then the rain came)
1.563 60 ft. 6.973 1/8 11.220 @ 111.210
Did a big burnout to heat up track, hit the rev limiter and my oil light came on. Turned the machine off, and back on in a couple of seconds. Light was still on. Made the run, and shut it off at the finish line. Fired it up and is fine now. There was no ticking, clicking or knocking, is this just a light to tell me that I hit the rev limiter?
