Asphalt Results 2003 (RX1)

Hey Blue Shadow - Thanks, and we are still improving, so keep checking back. I hope this will help everyone with a RX1. And thanks to everyone that is helping out, we are doing great! Keep the info coming!

GREAT NEWS!!! Great Lakes Dragway, 7/2/03, temp was HOT! A steady 89 with 50-60% humidity with lots of sun. This time I changed to a green spring, and a straight 47 helix. Results are amazing, especially the 60 ft.: (To give you a hint, my friend came down with his Skidoo that runs 10.80's in good weather, his best was 11.05 Weather does play a factor.)

1st run - 1.493 60ft. 6.847 1/8 11.062 @ 113.66mph. (set 80%)
2nd run - 1.483 60 ft. 6.846 1/8 11.097 @ 112.55mph. (set 90%)
3rd run - 1.528 60 ft. 6.918 1/8 11.124 @ 112.24mph. (set 70%)
4th run - 1.490 60 ft. 6.828 1/8 11.072 @ 112.52mph. (set 80%)
5th run - 1.514 60 ft. 6.946 1/8 11.106 @ 112.69mph. (set 80%)

Clutch temps are down to 110 on secondary, and 128 on primary. The only problem was my rpms went down to 9,400-9,500. Will take the previous weights out, and replace with 3/8 bolts, tip and middle to get that 10,400 back. Was too dark last night, but will change for Saturday at W.I.R.

terry- you're riding completely off the torque of the engine at 9400 rpm. get her up to 10,200 rpm and you'll see 10.6's @ 120+ with those 60' times.

Also, you may need to lighten up the mid and tip even more than you think. You may want to try the .9g alum bolt with a thick steel washer in both and see where that gets ya. Good luck...BBY

you need to gain about 800-1000 rpm over what you have so i'd take out 3 or 4 grams to start off with and see where that puts ya.

Thanks everyone, will make changes tomorrow.

:D :D :D

nos-pro: looks like the green spring and 47 helix is a good setup for the secondary clutch.keep up the good work!my cat friends are torturing me to death and I would love to beat them. angleboy

Hey angleboy - I don't think you would have to worry much this coming snowmobile season, do some good clutching, and every RX1 owner will be eating pu$$......, I mean, beating the competition. Time is 9am, so I better get a move on it, to the track.

Hey everyone - W.I.R. 7/5/03 Temp was 93 degrees, with 40% humidity, sunny with a 12 mph headwind. Barometer read 29.1

Well, how can I say this, no good results this time. I spent the day trying everything, with the HH weights. These are the results: (47 straight helix with it set at 80%)

1st run - 1.514 60 ft. 6.889 1/8 mile 11.139 1/4 mile @ 112.774mph
(HH's with aluminum bolts, thick washer in middle, no washer on end)
left the line, went 10,100 to 10,400 to 10,600

2nd run - 1.528 60 ft. 6.970 1/8 mile 11.266 1/4 mile @ 110.939mph
(same as above without washers)
left the line, went 10,100 to 10,500 to 10,600

3rd run - 1.534 60 ft. 6.946 1/8 mile 11.216 1/4 mile @ 112.094mph
(same as above with 1 thin washer in middle and tip)
left the line, went 10,000 to 10,400 to 10,450

4th run - 1.549 60 ft. 6.982 1/8 mile 11.243 1/4 mile @ 112.423mph
(same setup as last run) I got the BYE run for 1st round.
same rpm's

5th run - 60 ft. timer broke 6.997 1/8 mile 11.262 1/4 mile @ 111.708mph
(same setup as last run) took out points leader, won 2nd round
same rpm's

6th run - timer broke 6.969 1/8 mile 11.230 1/4 mile @ 112.124mph
(same setup as last run) lost to a Pro Bike, his win margin was 0.009
very close race.

All I can say is, I don't think this sled is getting enough air. It sounded good all the way through the lights everytime, why did it drop mph when I ran in the 10,500-10,600 range? I purchased the K&N filter setup from RX Warrior, and will try it next time. Plugs still look good, and motor still runs great, but seems to drop off towards the end of the track. Felt the same at Great Lakes Dragway earlier in the week. I will be taking a little vacation from 7/9/03-7/14/03, but I will still be checking the forum for updates.

Hope everybody had a good 4th!!!

I ran a 1000' radar event last winter. . I got the best top speed running the hh,s coming out at 9900 rpm & slowly climbing & maxing out at 10,300 rpm. Ran silver secondary spring at 80 degree wrap. I tried a bunch of different stuff & rpm,s but this worked the best that day

torque in 1/4 mile seems to rule more than rpm

Hey terry, great job so far man, keep it up,but all most time for the bottle  how did it feel, seat of the pants, this time around. Sometimes u can go backwards w/to many things to change,u know what i am saying,i am sure of that, this racing thing is not new to you, after seeing how fast u got ur wheelers to go in 1/8 and 1/4 mile, very cool indeed,i told u early on that this sled w/this much mass/weight will not go much faster than 117 tops and or quicker than 10.6-7 in 1/4 mile u either need to loose alot of weight or gain alot of HP to overcome this in 1/4 although this sled will go much better in 1/2 or more, but to do it in 1/4 mile is asking alot,it does look like it likes the rpms down more in the torque zone than rpm range for top hp, at least in such a short stretch,my hats off to you for getting ur 60 footers consistent in the 1.5s not bad at all,so to get mph w/quick ets you still need lots of hp for this beast, but keep up the good work terry and i will keep on cheering lol, later pete bring on the bottle baby. he he

Hey Pete - Thanks, it's been a lot of fun so far, and keep checking back. I hear you about the possibility of going backwards, (more backwards then forwards with the 4 wheeler stuff), but I guess I can say I tried it.

BBY - I ended up cleaning up the truck, trailer, and garages all day yesterday, and then the storms rolled through, and I didn't get online. When I ran stock clutching, I was going through the traps shifted out, and using all motor the last 20 or 30 ft. I thought we had gearing solved. I will call tonight, or if tomorrow is better, send a pm.

Hey everybody - I forgot to add, that I changed to a white primary spring, to get the engagement up to 4,400. Sorry guys, I can't believe I forgot that, it was a mother#%^&*@, to get in myself. Ryan reminded me in a pm, thanks Ryan.

Hey Turk - That would coincide with the Great Lakes Dragway runs I made Wed.,
