Asphalt Results 2003 (RX1)

hlmrx1 - Well, I think it will perform better, but at least I will be able to hear my sled at the line.   I worked on the suspension till late last night, and have a little adjusting to do tonight. I got the suspension down in the rear, just that the flap is off the ground an inch or two. I drilled new holes in the front straps, and used a kevlar belt, and strapped the rear scissor arm to the axle just behind the rubber pads on the middle of the side rails.

pro116 - I plan on being there to make some time runs with the suspension sucked down, and the new exhaust. Hope the weather improves by tomorrow, otherwise I will be there Sat. for sure.

Hey Nos Pro thankx I am becoming a fan cant wait tell Sundays to see how the RX-1 did keep up the good work :D :D

Hi Guys, Good news this post. Temp was 75-82 degrees, Humidity 48-55%, head wind of 12-18 mph, (storm was coming, got rained out before 1st round about 6:30pm). Well, all I can say is this exhaust rocks! :D 1/4 mile times went from 12.002 with no wind last week, to a 11.859 @ 108.489mph with a 16mph head wind that run. The 60 ft. times stayed the same at 1.692-1.709 since last week, and that is what a lot of guys were running for 60 ft's. Everyone loves the exhaust sound, and loved it more when it ran in the 11's toward that nasty head wind. :D It sounds like a bad a$$ Pro Bike they all said, just not as loud. Proof positive, shows the stock exhaust is restricting horsepower. When you fire it up, you can feel the exhaust behind the sled about 9 ft., now it is flowing good. :D

I thought that lowering the sled would get me better mph, but actually didn't change anything, :( besides making it look like it's in the weeds. 8) Seemed to hook up just the same as it did in the stock position. Some guys might differ with me, but numbers didn't lie this time. Front skis came up 1 inch and set back down just before the 60 ft. timer every time.

Wish I had more to tell, but the storms we had produced a tornado in Fondulac County, 38 miles from where we were, so Races were cancelled. Hit heavy rains from track to home. :(

jetting

hey Terry did you change your jetting yet, with all that extra flow the extra fuel would help I'm sure you would see some more gain.

wir

Long as their's no rain I will be able to make it this weekend,is it a night race or noon race this week.

Hey tooold - Have had a lot of great feedback about this topic, isn't this awesome! Just trying to give some help to all Yamaha owners out there, that small changes make a big difference. Keep tuned in as we make this sled go faster each week. :D

Hey Pro116 - It's a good thing you didn't come down, when the rain came, it was like a police raid. I will be there Saturday, gates open at noon, time trials till 6pm, then the races start (night race). I am still running stock jetting, clutching, gearing, and even the same plugs from winter. Sled ran real good with the stock jetting, no popping or bogging.

jtssrx - You got mail

Hi terry, sounds like u r getting things dialed in better, did the exhaust guys that sold u it,say u needed more fuel,w/it? I thought this motor needed more fuel,to but i was wrong, unless temps drop off alot,or u open up the box,i dont think it will make that much diff. stock, that is. pete

Hey Pete, Arne at White Knuckle Performance said it could probably use more fuel. As far as being stock, I didn't have a problem with popping, or bogging, and plugs have a light gray (cement) color to them. I think I will try 137.5 next week. This weekend will be a clutch setup from a local performance shop. Talked to Blue By You last night, and he wants to try his heavy hitter setup, same with Pro116. There is going to be some good clutching posts coming up, so keep tuned in. Didn't get my 22 tooth sprocket yet, but will definetly try that next week. Still working on getting this sled in the 9's by fall, should be real interesting to see what little mods we have to do to get it there.

Hey Nos-Pro, I played on the pavement a few years back these may be dumb questions but as far as the gearing goes you need to look at a couple of things or maybe you have already? 1st off did you mark your primary clutch to see how far up the sheave it is going? When you do this your wicked through the lights at the 1/4 then let off slowly so the belt doesn't backlash and give a false reading. If it is not going to the top (10-14 milimeters from the top which is as far as they go unless you have modified it) then gear down. Clutch this thing for 10,300 to 10,500 rpm and gear it so it starts to go over 10,500 rpm just before you get to the quarter mile mark (in other words you have run out of gearing and now the motor just revs faster). I had my 700mm with pipes pulling 105s mph in the 1/4 but the E.T. were 11.4s and 11.5s. My 600mm turbo which was used on the strip just for breaking in and to start setting up for the winter pulled 106 mph in the 1/8 and just under the 120 mark in the 1/4 and it had severe turbo lag (Way over jetted among other things got it set up way better when the snow flew but sold all my pavement sh#!) and that was on 9lbs boost which is about 145hp. Give me the details of your clutching, jetting and gearing and I think I can help. If you have already been up this route disregaurd this post. Nice to hear some of you guys are still out there having fun with your sleds anyways. P.S. I'll try find my old time slips so I can give you all my times and speeds.

Hey srxbully, When I get home this afternoon, I will send some nice pics. The track photographer didn't have any developed from the last couple of weeks, otherwise I could send some nice action shots. Right now, I have some driveway pics, and a pic at the track next to the winners circle.

Hey Snow Fever, We marked the clutches, and there is a lot of room to go. I try to slow down using the air force more than the brakes, just so I don't wear the crap out of them. Never thought about the backlash, good point there! Doing the math, what was your setup with your drivers/gear combo? Talking with some members, they all say gearing is way off. Dropping to 22 top, they said mile an hour was still up there, with a better bottom end take off, so we think a 22 top would be a good starting point. As far as asphalt racing, I LUV IT!! Too bad I am the only Yami out there right now. There was talk about a Price Performance engined Yami getting setup, but no one has showed up yet. Have to say, the blue RX1 stands out from the rest of them. Send me a pm with your phone #, and we can talk about some changes you have made. :D

NOS-PRO going to 22 upper sprocket is the way to go. Friend of mine went from 109 with 24 teeth gear to 114 with 22 teeth gear. No other mods done except gearing, this was on hardpack snow.

drags

Hey Terry I will be there for shure tommorow,Is it all right if I come in the pits?
