Hey mtnviper - I have to agree, the 47 straight with a green spring, worked well for me. Glad to have you on the site, hope you get some good info here, and talk to Srxspec, he is kickin' it in the grass also.

Thanks NOS-PRO, I saw back a few pages his set-up for last summer. I dont think I can have the helix and pri spring he was using, by this week-end. Next race is this Sunday. The good news is the wife dosn't have a honey-do list for me this week-end. So that gives me most of Saturday to test with the tuning parts I do have!
I see what you mean about the RX-1 holding in a lot of heat even with a cool down cart. Are you cooling the oil tank also? I've thought about trying to cool it with a leaf blower or set a bag of ice on it, but havn't tried it yet.
I think I'll take my Yamaha helix's in to a machine shop and have them cut to allow full shift like a Dalton does. Anyone know how much to machine off?

Hey Mtnviper - I know, that darn tank holds a lot of heat. I tried ice, but what a hassle. I have a big fan with a large towel, that I blanket over the motor and brake compartment, kind of like a funnel chamber, and now I can get up to the line as quick as everybody else that I race against. I was ghoing to mount an oil cooler with a pump to the same cooldown, but not this year. Maybe some quick discnnect to a cooler with a fan for the oil, Mmmm................
Mtnviper, I had mine done this spring and paid $50.00 Canadian....haven't tried it yet, we'll see when the snow flies and the ice is thick enough.

hlmrx1, Did the machine shop mention how much material they had to remove? I have a local guy who does good work for a reasonable price. As an added bonus, he seems to like building custom sled parts!

machine it till its flush with bushing on the helix and then you can buy split collers from hauck and they will do the primary or get a speed ring
but do the helix for now
will help you out

Mtnviper, I believe it was either 9 thou. or 10 thou., can't remember for sure. Maybe try what SrXxTrEeM says to do if you understand.
SrXxTrEeM, what do you mean split collers or speed ring, are you taking about the primary???

Thanks! I just checked a couple of my helix's. Its 7/32" from the end of the bushing to the inner edge.

yes the split collars in the primary and also can get a speed ring that lets the belt come up
i have a set of clutches that was machined by PSI to alow over drive
they even lighten up the spinder and cut the face of the sheaves 8)
but you can also take .005 off the seaves only were they meet up you know when you take belt off and shut the clutch were the 2 faces hit take .005 off each side you can even get that done on a brake rotor machine
if you know a guy that dose brakes for cars they must have a machine to turn the rotor or drums he can fit your primary on it and hes cutter is small enoff to reach down so you dont have to take apart the cltuch
little thing that you learn as you try to be the best
as for the helix trun it on a lathe till you get the hole end down to the bushing it will alow the secondary to open right up to full shift out
or you can get your split collars taken out and take them to a machine shop and put a table grinder and take .005 off , this will alow the primary to shut closer and witch will get the belt to run to the top of the primary
no stock clutch will ever hit the top its always about 3/8" from top ..
that 3/8 " can loose you a race or even loose you a radar run .
i gain by doing any of the steps at least 5 mph well 5 mph is a cheep mod when it only cost you maby if your lucky 20$ most of the time it cost you a beer cause it take 5 mins to do the job... BUT!!! YOU HAVE TO DO THE SECONDARY AND THE PRIMARY but it dont mater if you do the faces of the clutch or if you do the split colars ether way is work
but the best is to do all 3 steps then you got a wild set up for over drive and it dose work !!!!!!
anyways good luck thanx

Hey everyone - miss me? I will be going to Great Lakes Dragway tomorrow, 8/27/03 to do some testing on a clutch setup, that I think might help with the top end charge. We will see what happens.

I know that this is the RX Forums, but this post it the only one talking about asphalt racing. Over the past couple of months I have been racing my SRX with Simon-CPR 780 Big Bore. I have been making improvements every week and I thought it might be good to share some of my experiences with the guys trying to get the RX-1's running.
At the first part of the season I started in the 11's and tonight I ran my best et ever. The funny part about it is my 60ft time is not all that great, so who knows what the sled can do... 8)
Here is tonights numbers:
60ft - 1.457
1/8 - 6.437 @ 103.92
1/4 - 10.348 @ 122.44
I am running HH's (52.5g) with a lot of tip weight. Maxx Purple spring, 14.5mm rollers. Secondary - 52/44, Silver secondary @ 70deg. I can give more specifics at needed... I also seem to have clutching bog just after the 1000ft mark. hmmmm... going to work on that over the weekend.
I still have some more work to do with the rear skid, so again who knows.
So, again just wanted to let you guys know that there is a quick running SRX in the Rochester, NY area, if i can offer some help please ask. I will do my best to share what i've learned this year. GO-BLUE!!!

Cool Buster - I am the only Yami running at my local track, and 1 of 3 t the other Great Lakes Dragway. Keep the blue on the winning side, and every comment or post will help out. Marc (SrXxTrEmE) and I are running the RX1, and coming up with some good ideas, but can always use some help. Glad to have you with us, and let us know, how, and what you have changed to see what worked and what didn't.
8/27/03
Great Lakes Dragway - hazy sun, 73 degrees down to 54 degrees at 10:30pm with 93% humidity.
HH's with same heel set up (1/4 & 3/4), 7/16 with thick washer in middle, and 7/16 with thick and 2 thin on tip. 47 straight set at 80% with a green spring
1st run - 1.556 60 ft. 7.006 @94.84 1/8 mile 11.296 @111.67 1/4 mile
same as above with 3/8 in tip instead of 7/16
2nd run - no 60 ft. (spun) 6.950 @ 95.29 1/8 11.221 @ 112.10 1/4 mile
same as above but set secondary at 70%
3rd run - no 60 ft. 6.897 @ 95.61 1/8 mile 11.157 @ 112.28 1/4 mile
same as above but with a 52 straight set at 90% (what a laugh, but I tried it)
4th run - no 60 ft. 7.454 @ 88.17 1/8 mile 13.059 @ 71.23 (let off)
same as above but back to the 47 staight @ 60%
5th run - 1.532 60 ft. 6.898 @ 95.84 1/8 mile 11.147 @ 112.69 1/4 mile
same as above but set at 50 %
6th run - 1.524 60 ft. 6.945 @ 94.87 1/8 mile 11.238 @ 111.52 1/4 mile
Oh well, temp was down, but humidity was high.
Got to go, it is starting to storm here, C-Ya

Hypermax, Yes I am running the 'older-style' HH's. I like them a lot. 8)
NOS-PRO and SrXxTrEeM, I'm working on some suspension stuff/adjustments this week. I will let everyone know as soon as I can apply my theory to application. I need quicker 60ft times in order to run faster et's. Suspension is my focus right now. When I get that figured out I will post my complete setup, and hope it will help you guys.
Clutching seems good with one more adjustment.
I keep you guys updated....
