Asphalt Results "2007"

Buster,

I was thinking about going up last night but didn't make it. Man, There is a whole bunch of you from Ontario, NY that race asphalt. You, Jack, Amber, the Schmitt's etc. You guys could have your own shootout. Adam Schmidt has been on fire lately.

Hopefully I'll see you out next time...maybe next weekend.

Wayne

Finally got my exhaust back together. Have to reinstall the suspension and add some clutch weight. The sled does sound way better with the exhaust leak fixed. I hope i'll see a little better results too...who knows.

Anyone running asphalt with an Apex should really think about buying those "donut" gaskets and replacing them once per year. All four of mine were basically gone. 2 of the pipes didn't even have a fragment of the donut left. The other two had only about 1/3rd of the gasket left. I'll bet any Apex with 3000 miles or more needs those gaskets replaced. Once the gaskets go, you are really likely to burn up one of the headers like I did. That friggin header is $300 :o|

Mine was bad before I started with the asphalt.

Any of you New Yorkers racing this or next weekend?

Corey....Got NOS???

:nos :nos :nos

Looks like a nice weekend to go out and run a good number. Have a little more to do with the skid/clutching. 90% sure i'll be out at NYIRP tomorrow/sat.

I hope to be at ESTA Sunday.

No nos yet Wayne. Looks like it won't be until next year. It's goin to take some time to install and I don't want to rush anything. I don't even have the kit yet.

Will be out tommorow hopefully the :nos is working properly this weekend as I had major traction and solenoid problems last weekend but still ran a decent # 9.87 at 131.5 with a 1.52 60' :o|

Well just got back from the track and the traction was much better and the NOS worked much better but I still have a problem with the sled laying down about 150'-200' from the finish.N ot sure if this is a fuel issue, ignition issue or gearing problem but more testing is needed.
Best run of the day was

60'----- 1.444
330---- 3.952
660---- 6.084 at 115.5 mph
1000'--- 7.976
1320---- 9.64 at 133.59 mph

had another run at 9.67 at 133.72 and
9.68 at 133.51 and 2 runs at 9.70
Hopefully with more testing I will get this into the 9.5's which was my goal for today but will need more time to figure out why the sled lays over on the top end.

stone88, Great Job!!! Keep up the great work... btw. seen your old D&D motor run yesterday... ye-ha!!

Went out to NYIRP yesterday and made some good gains from the last time out. Off the trailer the sled ran a 10.65et @ 118.34mph. So I was feeling good about the changes I made from the last time out where I left the track running low/mid 10.7’s.
I worked on the skid for 2 more runs and then on the 3rd run I pulled a good 60ft time (finally) and ran:
60’ – 1.43
1/8 – 6.51 @ 101.91
¼ - 10.54 @ 118.38
:-o
Tried some clutching and skid changes for the next couple runs and moved back into the mid/low 10.6’s. I feel that the next time out with some more skid changes, (yes I seen/thought about what the sled was doing and will make some more adjustment) we will be back into the 10.5’s consistently. Then we can try some more clutching as well, maybe see a 10.4 this year as well…

Ernie,

Very nice! Are you still running stock gearing? Does your sled just stop climbing at 1100 feet? How big of a shot are you running? I wonder if you are getting some detonation or something??? I'm sure you'll figure it out soon enough.

I will finally be back out to the races this weekend. Not sure if I'm racing NYIRP on Saturday or ESTA on Sunday.

I never made it out Sunday. I was thinking NYIRP on Friday night but the weather doesn't look good. Can't go this weekend. I really want to get out again, but not much time left.

Yes I am running stock gearing for now and the NOS kit is a holtzman kit with 2 15mg nozzles (with alot of help from Jonathon 87gtnos in helping me hook it up and trouble shoot the first time out but now there's a new problem) and I believe is the same as Terry (nospro) is using But I am racking my brain on why it's doing this as I have taken timing away and added a 50/50 race fuel just to be safe and my A/F gauge is only reading 9-1 so it's plenty rich, maybe to rich. :o| :o|

At almost 134 mph with stock gearing, you are probably topped out. I don't think you'll get more than 134.5 mph at the very most unless you change gearing or machine your clutches. Are you right at 11,200 rpm at the finish line?

stone88 - Your AFR reading seems pig fat at 9.1 so it is plenty rich as you say. On the turbos we run around 11.8-12.0 AFR.

Finally got back to the track with my exhaust leaks fixed. What a difference now without the exhaust leaks. My sled is way "crisper" at the low end. It feels like a whole new sled. Also, no more backfiring when letting off the gas!

Unfortunately, there were only 4 sled running at NYIRP on Saturday night.

1st round

Dial in: 10.10 - Opponent dial in 10.00

reaction .600
60' - 1.55
1/8th 6.45 @ 108 mph
1/4 10.27 @ 128 mph

I won by .035...about 2 feet :) . My opponent had a .800 reaction and broke out by .002. I have no idea why I my ET was so bad. I was consistantly between 10.11 and 10.15 during time trails.

2nd round...I had to race the same girl again. she bought back in.

Dial in: 10.10 - Opponent dial in 10.00

reaction .690
60' - 1.55
1/8th 6.41 @ 108 mph
1/4 10.14 @ 124 mph

I let off with about 50 feet to go because I was a full sled length ahead. I again won by .04 about half a sled this time.

Finals:

Dial in 10.10 - Opponent dial in 10.32

reaction .432 RED LIGHT :o|
60' 1.55
1/8th 6.51 @ 108 mph
1/4 10.13 @ 128.88 mph

I didn't feel so bad about losing. I was racing Adam Schmidt in the finals. Adam was the co-winner of the bracket bash in the big shootout out ESTA last month and also won the Pro-Sled shootout bracket class at NYIRP last month. Additionally, he just came off a win at a big 1/8th mile shootout near Binghamton, NY last weekend. He is really on fire lately.

I'm really surprised my times were as slow as they were. I really expected to see high 9's the way my sled now seems to have so much more low end. Also, there was a slight tail wind and cooler weather towards the end of the night. I think I didn't see the 9's due to the relatively poor traction. Maybe on a better day we'll finally get into the 9's. I hate spinning for the first 100 feet :o|
