We were socked with snow over the past couple days (Western NY), and had the opportunity to ride my red Attack yesterday (Friday). I rode with my buddy who has a 2005 Doo Renegade 600 SDI. I traded a 2005 'Doo 600 SDI for the Attack last spring after years on 'Doos.

After warming the sleds, we left Sugargrove, Pa. about 11:00 and headed south on the many dirt roads that were hard packed snow. there was an occassional 'click' as we hit a stone sticking up through the snow, but overall conditions were perfect. Our ride was primarily on the roads, but probably 30% of the time we were breaking trail on seasonal roads or playing in the fields. By the end of the day, we had logged 83 miles. My observations:

- The sled sounds great, my buddy loved the sound when I let him ride it. There is an annoying drone at 5700 RPM.

- We stopped for lunch, and met a couple riding new Cats. She was having a problem with her new 500 Sabercat, they thought it was probably fuel related. We stopped at another restaurant awhile later, and they were there. She was wondering who did the custom paint on my sled. I told them that it was the standard Yamaha red. I loved it!!

- We never lined up the 'Gade & Attack, but the Attack was getting a lot better traction, probably because of the 162 picks vs. the 108 on the 'Gade. I don't think the 'Gade would stand a chance off the line.

- Cruising at 40mph, we tried a few full throttle runs. The Attack walked away from the 'Gade.

- The top speed I saw indicated for the day was 117 mph, and it was stiil pulling hard. I had to back out because I ran out of straight road. My buddy had the Attack up to 112 mph when he was riding it.

- The skis of the Attack shoot a lot of snow over the hood & windshield into your face when riding slow in deep powder. Once you get to 25 or so, it stops.

- Filled the sled this morning, I averaged 15.4 mpg.

- We both preferred the seating position of the Attack vs. the 'Gade.

- As others have said, the power is super smooth and the sled pulls hard to 100+

- We both agreed that the Attack was the dominant sled for the conditions we were riding. Can't wait to try it on the bumps to see how it compares.

I ride no trails only rivers and fields.Do you think that wider skis would help with the snow in your face.I was thinking of putting on ones from the apex mountain sled. Also does the snow pile up behind your feet on the running boards like the Polaris's? or does it stay pretty snow free.My buddies rides Polaris and they always got to do the macaraina when they stop to get the snow off of them selves. It's all over their backs and laps and running boards are full. This is not in powder, just normal crosscountry riding.Thanx for info. Also bought new Red Attak but no snow in central Saskatchewan. :rocks:

Last year I took 4 saddlebag trips in Quebec. 200+ mile days, 3-4 days / trip. By March, my knees couldn't take being locked in one position. The last couple days on the last trip, I rode 1/3 of the trip standing to stretch out my knees. The Attak gives me the ability to change my seating position throughout a ride.

Not sure why Jerry likes the Attak position better, he just made the comment yesterday that he likes the seating better.

We're both still leery of how the Attak will handle the bumps. My wife still has her 2005 'Doo 600 SDI, I can ride that locally when the trails get whooped if I need to.

As far as the skis and the snow spray, it's not a big thing to me because I rarely ride in deep snow.

I didn't notice any snow buildup on the rear of the running boards, or on my back. If it was going to be a problem, I probably would have seen it as we were breaking trail on a few seasonal roads yesterday.

There. Now it's an Attak

Thanks. I kind of thought that would be the case, but just wanted to check. I also like to do 200+ mile day bagger trips and it wasn't a problem on the old RX platform. Just want to make sure the new seating position would not be too Rev like for that reason.

By the way, it is Attak and not Attack. Gotta get the name right now that you ride Team Blue. :tg:

The Yamahas IMO are WAY more comfortable than the rev, when comparing the 2 the rev seat feels like its off a 96 polaris, its a soggy sponge feeling. The Yamaha bars are more comfortable and better positioned too. I think people who think this is another overhyped yamaha have underestimated it.

BTW SRShang, Im pretty sure our wives work together..LOL small world.

Well said.... I think they may have underestimated it in the speed and power dept also.

Today I sat on the Apex for the first time at a dealer(thats what ya gets for living in isolation LOL)
I got on an 05 vector to compare
the Apex felt ALOT better
I had some seat time on the revs over the past few years and IMHO the Apex feels much better

I also looked at the VK Professoinal
I lifted the front about 3 inches off the ground and put it back down, thought i was going to pull something
I pitty who ever gets that beast stuck by them selves
But still, IMO, the nicest work sled for 06
