Why doesn't Yamaha run .020" with new belt clearance from the factory? I installed thinner collars to achieve .020" on my Apex and makes a big difference on holeshots not to mention smoother engagments. These things are a royal pain to hook up especially with short tracks so I can't see a reason why this wouldn't benefit most of us. So, is there any drawbacks to running tight clearace for trail and occsional racing on lake???

.020 or less has been the goal on Poo's for years. They come with .060 on average. They are much easier to reset belt clearance on though.

Ya when you cut a poo clutch for O.D. all you do is shim the spider,on the yammi when you cut the bottom, sheaves to close up tighter, now you have widened the belt gap,the only way i could see to help was to take a stock stoppers and throw them on a surface grinder, and take .020 off the top surface, but i still may take even more off,we took .015 of the clutch sheaves plus the clutch belt distance was already more than .060 to start with,so maybe more like .040 off the stoppers,at any rate they dont cost much, just the time involved.
