Folks,

Has anyone tried the Bergstrom triple points with shims and Ski Savers on the stock skis?? I have some six inchers that I want to try (with no studs yet) and was wondering if anyone was running them. If so, how was the darting or cornering??

Thanks

Dave

I'm running Slydog trail skis with Bergstom triple point, 6 Inch, along with 1/4 inch ski savers. Works great, zero darting, light feel with positive steering. The ski savers look like a great idea to me. Skis I've run without savers get quite abit of wear after 3000 miles. studdog

Sorry, I meant to add that, I've heard from Scott Bergstrom that quite a few people have been happy with stock skis,if shimmed and Triple point carbides.

My Berstromes ,shims and ski savors are mounted onto my Attak ready to go, just need some snow. I know without them my sled darted badly, hopefully they will do the trick.

Yes. I am running the 6" triple points on the stock skis on my Attak and I don't have studs either. I put Simmons on my last two sleds, but with the Bergstrom carbides, I am happy enough with this setup to keep the stock skis. I put 400 miles on the sled and will be installing the shims to reduce the darting. Even with the Triple Points, you need the shims to reduce the darting.

something to consider with the Skisavers...

You are adding 2 90* edges to your keel, making any ski more aggressive when turning in snow. For shallow keeled skis, this is a simple mod that will have big results! There should be much less "turn and wait for the sled to start turning" bs with these on.

They also keep the keel from getting gouged, and rounded off by gravel and sand. They 'hide' half of the bar too, and keep that from snagging things, and catching ruts. These things are a must have item for my kind of riding.

Read my article on darting in the tech pages, then have a look at your own sled. Set it up right, and forget it!`

I have a set of ski savers which I didn't mount because of the groove in the stock skis. It seems as thought the ski savers would make it worse by making the carbide sit further below the ski than without them. Am I missing something?

John, I think I read your article (some time ago) my carbides sit perfectly flat after shimming.

Let me know how long it'll take to get them. It took me 5 1/2 weeks :o| That's 2 1/2 weeks longer than I was told. Mind you, I do live in Canada, so that may add to delivery time.

FYI, I returned them after starting to install them. One of the bolts snapped off as I began to tighten them. Also, one of the ski savers split. I didn't put too much pressure on it either.

It didn't give me the confidence that I wanted in a product that has such a great reputation. Imagine one or more bolts breaking off while riding :Babe:

In the end, I made up my own shims and bought the Deuce Shaper bars. ZERO darting so far!

I think that groove also contributed to the ski saver to split on mine.

Also you wouldn't be able to tighten the bolts for the runners too much as it would bend or break the ski savers.

And since you can't tighten the runners too much, I'd have a fear of the runners flexing too much to the right or left in the corners. Eventually this could cause elongated holes in the skis, loosening the runners further and possibly, an accident!

I started using bergstroms carbides a few years ago. last year I used the triple points and I was doing circles around my buddies at the paved gas pumps. They definetley work. I broke 2 ski savers also last year, I believe I tightened them to much and they split in half. Not a big deal, but they will spray snow at you until you remove or replace. This year I have the 6" triples installed in the RTX with ski savers and shims. The ski saver comes in 1/4" or 3/8", they save the bottom of the ski but also add depth to your stock keel which in turn gets you past/deeper than the other "tracks" reducing the darting. I found that it worked well for me last year.

6" triples...
