this can be a loaded question as the type of snow differs from area to area in how it packs/sets up. sled suspension set up also affects a ski's performance as well.
a good ski for groomed trail that sets up well is the curve xs ski. i run them with single carbides but doolys wok well on them as well as snow trackers from what i see on here.
my local conditions look like it sets up well but it remains softer on the groomed trails. for my conditions, i tend to use an aggressive keel ski like the old yamaha mountain ski or the curve xm mountain ski. be warned though, on hard snow they can be a bear to turn.
there are other good ones out there and many members have tried most of them at some point on a viper or sidewinder.

I know about curve skies but the are out of business now, so looking forward other options. Mainly trail riding in the UP AREA. All trails very little off trail riding. Other options?this can be a loaded question as the type of snow differs from area to area in how it packs/sets up. sled suspension set up also affects a ski's performance as well.

My 14 Viper with the stock cat skis and aggressive snowtrackers goes straight as an arrow and steers easy. Snowtrackers were the only thing I found that could make it turn without pushing and I tried several other carbides before them. I have a 17 sidewinder and I have tried the Tuner II's it came with and bought a brand new set of Stryke skis with snow trackers and it still doesn't track as well as the Arctic Cat skis. I know some people say the Ski Doo pilots are good as well. I'm thinking of getting some Cat skis for my sidewinder since they are a known entity to me but am curious about the pilots. Good luck!

Yes just the stock skis that came on my 14 Viper work great. Of course Mr Sled has a lot more experience than I do. You can't go wrong either way.Thank you for advice. Just stock cat skies nothing special?

Agreed with curve xs were one of the best trail riding skis on what would be considered good conditions. For average trail conditions and any off trail riding I recommend slydog. My only experience is with the 8" powderhound but IMO they provide the best traction/light steering ratio. Aside from the bolt length, they use the same ski rods as c&a so there are some great options. Woody's makes ski rods specially made for slydog. I've tried C&A mtx & xtx but they make the already heavy steering sled..... heavy. I'm on my 4th pair of slydogs (4 different sleds) since the 1st time I've tried them.
