ok, i know this has been discussed before, but it is getting closer to snow, and my new attak is sitting in the garage...

i go 250 with gear.... will moving the c clip work or do i need the beefy spring? if i recall, some say moving the c clip will do it... or should i just go ahead and change the spring when i have the skid out to change tracks.... or would i be better off to change c clip and wait till snow and see how it works?

any help is appreciated.... first mono in the stable.

Spring Changes

Before you change anything you need to find out if the spring is correct. Here is info on ride height setup from Viper's post

Lift the sled off the ground, Measure the spring length (spring only), Then set the sled on the ground and sit on it and have someone measure the spring again. You should have 40mm to 45mm of sit in. Caution!! do not preload the spring to less than 262mm or 10.3" when sled is off the ground as it will coil bind and cause dammage. If you are at 262mm and have more than 45mm of sit in you will likley need the optional spring.

Tip, To do this with one person i slid the wiper washer up to the shock body when lifted and then sat on the sled, Lifted it beck up and measured how far the washer was frome the shock body(this is your sit in). If the washer slides back to the shock body you can wipe a thin film of grease on the shock shaft to keep the washer frome moving after you raise it back up.

I weigh 220, have the spring at 10.3" and have 45 to 50mm of sit in so i am thinking i will need the optional spring after i get more miles on it. kviper

I'm your Size and I went to the bigger spring and moved the clip up one spot on it. I run the preload on Zero and have the tunnel adjuster on full soft and I bottomed once. It rides awesome

I've lost some weight & hope to ride this year at 250ish!
I'm only moving the clip & putting the stock spring at 4 or 5!
Last year at 275-280ish I rode my Attak with stock spring at 7 & clip in stock position & only toward the end of my 3000 mile year did it feel too soft!!!
My saddle bags made me bottom out on dips alot more than without them!
After riding with my bags for a couple trips the suspension softed up!
Before those trips I had no problems other than a botton out every couple hundred miles!!

Dirk, I think you didn't need the spring if you have no preload on it & you are not getting any good out of your dial range if its all the way soft!
Too much spring, I think!?

ok... looks like stock spring to start... see what happens... i think i will put it in the 2 c clip spot and adjust from there... if it bottoms too much then i will pony up and get a spring.

thanks guys

You have to remove the shock to switch the clip. It makes no sense not to change the spring. the spring only costs 100.00

-You won't need the bigger spring - I'm 220 with out gear and I ran my clip in the 3rd spot with the adjuster all the way loose and I had to put my Attak in the air big time to get it to bottom. If you put the bigger spring on like my buddy did you will have so much ski pressure that it will track like you have never seen.

Hi guys read alot of stuff about the c clip but never really figured out where on the shock it really is lol anybody share any pics plzs ..

Do not have any pictures but the c clip is actually the lower collar that the spring fits around and rides up against. In other words, look at your spring under the sled. On the rear (upper portion) of the shock there is a collar that the spring slides over. This collar is the same piece that you twist to adjust the spring tension.

When the sping is removed you will find that this collar can be moved up to another notch (notches are cut into the shock). It is very hard to see with the spring on but those grooves or notches are there. I believe there are 5 of them if my memory serves me correctly.

Remove the shock from the rear suspension and you will find them. Remove the spring and you can make this adjustment. (You will need to take the spring to a dealer with a spring compressor...dont try this at home.)

I'm 230 naked and have been very happy with C-clip on the second position, with the adjuster at 5.

Same here, 250 with gear, and 2nd clip position.
