I have had the big boy spring for over a year. I have decided to install it finally. I have flip flopped between sending the shock out or trying the spring. I only plan on keeping my gt one more season and did not want to spend the money on a re-valve.
What i'm looking for is a start point to set the shock at prior to install. I'm 260 with gear on.

You still use the same pre-load settings as the standard spring. Measure the shock unladen, then with you and riding gear on. The difference in measured length should be 35-40mm. I would shy toward 35mm, the spring will break-in. With the bigger spring, you'll want to increase rebound damping a few clicks. The bigger spring will want it. IMO if you haven't had the revalve, its well worth the money.

LOL!! Has anyone changed this by hand?
I did this a few weeks ago.
Getting the collar off was a bugger. I ended up unthreading the end off it.
THEN there is a rod inside the shaft!! It is under pressure too! So I used a real long 3/8" drive extension, and the female end over that little rod that wants to come out and slide the spring up and off. No other way to hold it down!!
Reverse procedure was easier as the BIG BOY spring is about 1/2" shorter!
BTW...on my sled, with the rear on the stand, I was able to unbolt the mono shock and remove it very easily!!

i use two ratchet straps when i did mine
on my GT, I just unthreaded the nut, then pulled off the collar.
I had mine revalved at Pioneer, and the difference in the shock compression by hand is night and day.
The best hunnert bucks I ever spent.
Bruce ordered an adjusting nut from Ohlins that is made of aluminum, not plastic.
Turning this thing is like heaven, compared to that plastic POS
