I made 340+ HP on my 800 v-max pro-stocker once. It had the reduction gear in it also.

This is very interesting!! Vmax4's were 1 to 1. So spin your pro stock motor at 10000 rpms (or to the moon) and gear reduce it for monster TORQUE and clutch efficiency!! Very clever!

340hp from an 800 or 1000cc 10 years ago?! Very impressive indeed! But I get maybe what you are implying (if indeed you made a GEAR REDUCTION on your VMAX4)...you used the rpm of the engine and plugged it into the calculation with the torque produced from the PTO, instead of using the RPM of the PTO shaft! This would get you your inflated HP numbers. <<however this is not the case with Hurricane's sled!!

87gtnos , your right Vmax-4 came 1:1 from the factory, but Yamaha offered a gear reduction for them for race teams , I have a Vmax-4 880cc with a Yamaha factory gear reduction. belts hold up better not turning 10,200rpm !!!

520hp is Sick , I hope it stays together .

Right on, I never knew the Vmax4 came with that option! I'd love to own one, quad pipes, 9500rpm (or whatever) and gear reduction!!

Well So do I, although this thing will only run full out for about 10-12 seconds, the truth of it all is a WHOLE LOT can go wrong in a lot less time then that,
We proved that last year on the dyno when we smoked one at right around 400HP. and it was only fullout for 4.5 seconds.
Although we have long since cured that problem, you never know when something new, that you have never incounted before rears it's ugly head.

I believe this version to be very reliable and capable of producing alot more then 520hp.

And also to answer Teds question,it restricted the air alot, that has been solved aswell.

Tq. will be higher at the clutch because it it geared down. Glad Ted brought it up. I didn't want to say anything but 28 lbs boost running rich and 520+ HP does not seem realistic, and I have spent a whole lot of time dynoing engines as has Ted. 420 HP would be a little more realistic. 140 stock HP + 280 of boost dialed properly = 420 HP which is still excellent. The math just did not add up.

Was thinking the very same thing

So I guess I have to ask a question then if everyone thinks that this engine only is putting out 420 hp.

If you do the math on what it takes to go 180 mph I can tell you right now that 350 hp is only good for about low to mid 150's

I know this because I have had other dealings with fast sleds running those around the 150ish range and thats what hp they had.

to run above 150mph on ice it takes expodentally more hp as speed rises Thus we know that last year this sled ran in the range of 450 hp and ran 177.8mph.

It's tha same with cars, if you know the weight of the car and the distance that you ran and how long it took, you can compute the hp.

regardless there is 521hp at the clutch and thats all that counts, go back a few pages and reread 87gtnos's post and you will also see it doesn't make that much difference this sled still pulls 500hp at the crank.

Sorry about the change 400 to 350 as I had to go back and check my books to see what hp that sled really had.

NO doubt that you have big hp 523..and great job again

BUT i don't think, for run 150mph range you will need some power!
cause 3 years ago with only 270hp i have ran 156 mph on ice...and a guys here in QUEBEC ...HE RAN LAST YEAR AT 160MPH WITH 280HP ON A SUPERCHARGER!

FOR 177MPH ..HO #*$&@ PROBABLY 350 AND MORE.... :4STroke: .........!

I guess we will see if that holds true, as I will have around 260hp in 05mach-z this winter and I would be really happy with 150mph.

Well I wish you luck what ever it is. you must be running only 1000 feet for those type of MPH #s I know the 1100 open mod two-strokes are around 157 and the 1000 prostock record is 146, all in 1000 feet. None of this 2000 foot stuff here south of the border. 87gtNOS do you really think my old v-max 800 made 340? It was only 230 real HP, but that 230 real HP would kick the snot out of the 1000's that were claiming 265-270 HP. 3-4 years in a row I won the 1000 Pro-Stock class with that sled at the World Series. So you know it wasn't a fluke. Things that make you go HHHMMMMMMMMMMMMM! That's why we don't race dynos.

No, I did not think it made more than say 240...if you read my post you would see that I was trying to understand exactly why you think GEAR reduction changes HP output?????????? It doesn't. I used that example to maybe make what you tried to say more clear, as it isn't very clear. You are still yet to elaborate, but hey, 25 championships.....

What I have written in that post is clear. Now written in italics.
