Mpg is a deadissue 2 stroke to 4 stroke so close its a wash. The big key points are emissions ( burning oil ) and overall lifespan of the motors. When have we seena 50000 mile 2stroke? When has a 4 stroke rider added oil on a fuel stop? These are the main points. Guys I know are debating 4 stroke on the engine life not the mpg or anything else.

My bud got a kawasaki drifter that has 47000 lmao! Im not sure if thats the original motor but my 97 vmax 700 has 22500 on original unopened engine and my 91 exciter 2 had 19000 before it blew a crank bearing and even then it only cost $300 to fix. Fourstrokes may last longer but they are very complicated and expensive to fix. A couple weeks ago we rebuilt a 500ss engine in about 3 hours and even with good brand name parts it all cost about $400. I rarely see a 2 stroke rider add oil at a fuel stop considering you can get 2-4 tanks of gas on a tank of oil.

HPDI runs a power robbing pump that is not really condusive to its use on a small light weight sled engine. On a V6 outboard they rob about 15 crank hp and take up a lot of space. The supertrax guys are silly to think that Yamaha who has switched over 99% of their ENTIRE line to 4-strokes will go backwards and make a 2-stroke...which is dead technology. I loved my HPDI outboard but they've had the tech for 14 years...so why not use it when they actually built and were tooled up to build 2-strokes???

EVERY year is the same around here...3 more weeks everyone will be whining because the new turbo sled only comes in black you they wanted red....

Very well put Rick...I would think HPDI could be troublesome in the cold!! Tiny fuel filters, water in fuel, etc!!
