So I have a new 2020 Ltx-se winder with 1236 miles on it. Earlier this week I blew the stock belt apart at 926 miles. So I bought a new Gates belt and was riding tonight and the sled felt doggy so when I got home I pulled the side panel off and the clutches were hot as hell and the new gates belt is starting to rip apart. Any suggestions as to what I going on.

I would start with taking clutches apart and inspecting all rollers, bushings,springs..... then get the hurricane clutch alignment toolSo I have a new 2020 Ltx-se winder with 1236 miles on it. Like Marc said, inspect and clean clutches and check your offset

If the sled is stock there will be nothing wrong with your clutch components as the sled is new, but I agree to use the hurricane offset spec.
If these things are run real hard, they will benefit from some added venting.
Don't use gates belts.
Try the ultimax XS belt, plenty of guys finding it may be the best belt available.

From my experience the ultimax Xs belt is the best. I am getting between 3-5000 miles per belt.
Make sure you don’t have a broken primary spring. The stock spring is junk. I use dalton springs and they last.

I am claiming since 2017-2018 that the xs825 is the best belt for our sled.
You will have to throw 35/39 and pink in the garbage. Yamaha clutching team is on hard drugs

Like all others have said, replace with Timken xs825 belt, you may have to adjust for loss of rpms,as this belt will more than likely drag your rpms down some on break in,and maybe after as well. I agree the stock primary spring is a very long spring and may as well be a problem, some are some are not,get in touch with Dalton, call and ask for Dale he is the owner, and is very helpful, also there is Terry who now owns TP or thunder products, also a vendor here.So I have a new 2020 Ltx-se winder with 1236 miles on it. I’m thinking you need a tune to bring those rpm’s up!

Xs 825 belt. Only one that will take what these sleds can hand out. When I had my sled done at the speed shop they put the alignment bar on but he said that he had not seen any 2019 or 2020 sleds that were off. Mine was bang on. Only need 2 straight edges and a metric tape to measure offset. It’s right in the owners Manuel. I’ve got 900 miles on my xs belt at 290hp and I have confidence they will last just need to use your head on the trail with the throttle.

Yes you only need straight edges and a metric measure to find out what your offset measurement is, but the Yamaha manual allows for a difference of about 4 mm. What end of that measurement are you calling “Bang On”?

A hurricane alignment bar bang on. They guys that did the tune on my sled have done lots of them. According to him it was mainly a ‘17 thing and few 18. Told me 99% of ‘19 and ‘20’s are spot on with the alignment toolYes you only need straight edges and a metric measure to find out what your offset measurement is, but the Yamaha manual allows for a difference of about 4 mm. Nice to hear!
That would be somewhere around the lower part of that Yamaha spec and maybe a touch more from what I found with that same tool.
2020 xtx se, was off 2mm according to hurricane alignment bar. I machined 3mm off and put 1mm shim behind clutch so Id have a little adjustability in case primary got knocked in later down the road. I also switched to ultimax belt , only have 220 miles or so on belt and alignment but all looks well so far and cool clutches so hoping for the best.
I pulled my stubshaft assembly and loctited it back together giving me almost 2mm closer to alignment, installed Thunder Products secondary rollers and installed the ultimax. No more blowing belts or belt dust. (So far) Clutches are shiny clean. Performance still has room for improvement so maybe aftermarket primary rollers and springs to come. Stock tune.
