The fuse that operates the speedo, taillight, and reverse signal keeps getting blown on my 03 rx1. I changed it today, and after riding 2 miles, it blew up again. I figured it may have just been a bad fuse, but once again, another fuse blew within 5 minutes of riding.
Any suggestions?
It is the 10amp fuse

Do you have a heated visor? Mine did the same thing turned out it was the wire for my visor. A friend had the same problem only it happened when you would unplug the visor and dropped the cable on his running boards and it would blow the fuse.

Not too familiar with wiring.. Anyone know how to put an inline fuse on the shield hookup? The cables that came with the plug did not have a fuse on it

You really don't want or need a fuse in front of the visor when its already connected to the other fuse.
If it is the visor, fix the problem! A fuse is never a fix... They do not regulate or limit the amount of a current a device will draw.

On my brothers 04 warrior, the backup alarm would blow the fuse every time he went in reverse. We just unplugged it as the wiring was all good.

The fuse would blow when I was going about 30mph forward , so I'm not sure it could be the reverse alarm

This just happened to me. I was riding at moderately slow speed when I hit some ruts in the field and the sled seemed to side step underneath me. Next thing I know my butts on the ground and my visor cord pulled out from the visor instead of the short cable coming from it. Well its hooked up to my light circuit and the male ends of the cable hit the running board shorted and blew the headlight fuse.

Try riding with the visor unplugged. Mine was the cable that came with the helmet, not the one that is installed on the sled. The cable shielding had cracked over time and when I would turn my head the fuse would blow. An easy fix if its the cable, just buy a new one. Adding a second fuse of a lower amperage in the visor cable actually is a good idea. If you drop your cable on the running boards it would blow that fuse first and save the other fuse. Not nice riding home in the dark

So I ended up rewiring the shield, and the fuse still blew. I replaced the blown fuse and tried to ride with the shield unplugged altogether. The fuse still blew within 5 minutes.
Wht should I do next? Check the harnesses? Is there one thing that I should look for ?

I guess the only thing left is to get a wiring diagram and see what is all on that circuit and start tracing wires. I would start with the components it feeds first (ie: speedo, tail light......) to rule them out and then concentrate on the wiring.
I rewired my hand warmers in parralel (they are wired in series from factory) to try to get more heat out of them. I did get more heat but I kept ignition fuse, so I put them back to factory. Did you modify any wiring or add any accesory wiring lately.
Just read this and it sound realy familiar......

I actually narrowed it down to the tail light. I unplugged the harness next to the gas tank, and the fuse still blew when I hit the brakes. Then I reconnected it and unplugged the harness from the brake that connects in the steering column where all the other harnesses are. The fuse has not blown, so I figure it is something with the brake light wiring, I am just stuck one what to do next because all the wiring looks fine

Could be the switch is grounding out through the bars. Try un bolting the switch from the lever and testing it.

Might be a wire rubbing under the seat and touching the tunnel. Taking the seat off isn't a very hard job and you can check them for short circuits.

mine was the tail light wire under seat both times I had it happen.

So this has happend to two of my three sleds, found the harness rubbing on the frame in the right front side under the air cleaner or was it the tool box hmmm. This is a very old concern, there were several posts about this a couple years ago. Try doing a keyword search in the RX General Talk section. Follow the harness down the right side and you will see it makes a sharp bend over the aluminum bar that causes a rub thru concern. You could even wiggle the harness and see if fuse blows. Would happen when hitting bumps on the trail, the headlight would go out. Spooky when you are the lead sled and not in the middle where you can ue others headlights to see. I feel this is what you are looking for, there are other posts on this also. It is right there by the beer holder under the tool box. Click the link below.
