break in period

Hammer the #$%&* out of it from the git go! Do a search on this, its been covered in great lengths.

But seriously don't baby it likes the manual says, ride it normal with various wot throttle bursts thrown in. Don't overheat it and you'll be set ;)!

as weird as it sounds, this is how every 4 stroke should be broken in. you only have the first few minutes of the engines life to seat the rings. this is because when the cylinders are honed there are rough spots in the cross hatch for the rings to seat, but the rings will wear it down smooth before they are seated good if you baby it. so get on the trail and beat the sled from the get go.

I've never babied any toy...my last sled was doing 3000ft radar runs with only 50 miles on it...never an issue...the only thing I would do is break the belt in for about 20 miles before hammering the pee out of it..vary the throttle, short bursts etc.

What does the manual say???

I would strongly recommend following Yamaha’s direction

2/ ya..pin it..for ultimate HP 4/….you need to heat cycle it… …

haha I was thinking the same thing on mine. Last own said he broke it in on a lake, so I think i'm good :jump:

Where did you find a brand new 08? Thought they were all gone by now?

Found it in Billerica Ma. It was just sitting on a show room floor waiting for me, got a great deal on it too!

Very cool, there are so many aftermarket bits and mods you can do to an 08 to make it shine. Enjoy!!!

I imagine it's pretty key to change the oil/filter after 20 miles if you do ride it hard? Instead of the 500 (I think) the manual suggests.

i changed mine after the first 500 miles, thats why they have a oil filter, and i rode it like i stole it with a couple heat cycles,
