So... I know how the book says to break it in, then I see people with recommendations that are quite different.... figured a thread may help to clear up what is truly best for a good snappy responsive motor with longevity.

I'm going out on a limb here but I think Yamaha spent all that Engineering time and money just to waist paper and ink in the manual. It has nothing to do with the Engine making better power or living longer.

It could also be a C Y A statement and be great for longevity at the expense of some power *shrug*

Avoid any long wide-open runs, otherwise rip it!

just ride it normal. Obviously not going out and holding it wide open for 2 miles. But if u baby it for the first 500 miles I'll guarantee it'll be the slowest viper on the trail.
statements like this led to the question

Besides log full throttle pulls drive it like your going to drive it. Another word dont baby it and dont stay at the same speed for long periods of time. Change up your rpm constantly. Change oil in 500 miles and have fun! 5th Yamaha 1049 triple and never had an issue with the motor.

They all say that cya, statement, run it thru its rpm range than back down to idle and up to wfo just for a 8-10 seconds than down to idle again let cool and do it again until you have about 20 miles on it,at that point runit normal, and up thur the entire rpm range but just don't hold it for 1/2 to 1 mile prolonged range where it can get to hot,and you will be good to go.irish_redneck said:It could also be a C Y A statement and be great for longevity at the expense of some power *shrug*

I broke my Nytro in by the book and it's the fastest one around, not scared of 800s or exhaust and programer Nytros.
