Brief 2000 mile report. 09 Venture GT

Don't have time for detailed full report. But, For whoever is interested; over 2000 miles now on Venture GT. I think I have this sled now set up as good as it can be for one up riding. It took 1500 miles to get it set up right because of zero info from Yamaha. The guys on this forum were very helpful with setup ideas. It is a great high speed "good trail" riding machine. Great seat and windshield. Hand warmers great. Very comfortable warm ride. Mirrors great. Space with Yamha saddlebags great. Handles great on good or better trails. Fuel economy and range great(18 mpg). Power is good. Engine runs great. This is is one big heavy sled. I named her the "Beast". She doesn't like bad trails or sloppy trails. She's tippy and combersome to handle in some conditions. And wow, you don't want to get her stuck! She doesn't like tight twisty trails. If you like that kind of riding she'll kill you unless your Arnold Swartzeneger. Track howl is bad. Why can't they make a quiet running machine?

Glad you posted this report. I was thinking of trading for a RS Venture GT in a year or two. I am not a super fast rider, but do end up on bumpy trails a lot and need decent manueverability. Sounds like this sled would not be good for me. If you have ridden an Apex with a 121" track, can you provide me with some comparisons?

I have both a apex rtx and the new venture, there is no real comparison, the venture will tire you out in a ditch or bumpy uneven trail, power is OK but nothing like the apex, if you don't ride fast this sled is great, and don't put her on her side with those mirrors or it will cost you some $

Bowhunter, thanks for the reply. You are a good person to talk to, considering you own both machines I am comparing.

Here is a typical ride for me. As a matter of fact, this is a description of the ride I took yesterday!

Left home, rode down snow covered sidewalks...a narrow railbed for a few miles with large, widely spaced rollers that would cause my RTX to bottom out above 50 mph...smooth fields...apple orchard laneways with stutter bumps...corn fields with some visible ruts...riding alongside roads on the banks with frozen bumps with the ski occasionally drifting off the bank into soft snow...narrow bumpy trails through the woods with twists and turns, manageable without tons of effort @ 25 mph...

How would this ride be on a RS Venture GT?

"How would this ride be on a RS Venture GT?" You could do it with the venture, just slower, I find this machine forces me to slow down so I can take in the scenery.

What I love about the venture is I can take both of my kids for a ride or use it for icefishing or do high mile rides with the boys.

The 09 sounds like a nice ride and improvement over the 05 and I like my 05 very much.

Today I came across an 09 RS Venture GT with 20 miles on it. Guy bought it and did not like it, he traded it in after the first hour of riding for a Ski-Doo.

They are asking $7,900.00 for it.

Is that a good price?

With 20 miles on the sled, IMO this price is very reasonable.

3800 mile report. Great long distance touring sled! Zero problems in this milege. Between my 2000 mile report and Hondo's report it's pretty much all covered. For me, sled needs softer rear torsion spring to get it a little softer for my solo riding. In 3800 miles, of widely varied conditions and high speed running, the sled has never bottomed in the rear. All around, this is one of the best packages Yamha has delivered. Individual riders should evaluate based on their riding style and needs.

• It takes quite a bit of thumb pressure to depress the throttle lever. Hopefully all the 2010 models will come out with a roller type throttle lever as mentioned in the 2010 Vector improvements.

You'll be glad to know it appears the 2010 Venture GT and TF will both get the new bearings added to the throttle body shafts, so throttle pull will get even lighter for 2010.
