Well I had my first problem with the viper yesterday. Brought it home from a 150 mile
Ride. Unloaded it from the tru m and was driving it around the yard a bit doing some odds and ends. All of a sudden the clutch started engaging at 2000 rpm or less. Pulled the clutch cover off and sure enough the primary bl-Sl-bl spring was broken. I read where it was quite common a few years ago. Is it still a issue? I haven’t pulled it out yet to see why it broke I see the part number is updated now. Not sure if that actually means anything or not.

I think there was bad batch out there. Do yourself a favor and just get the Barn of Parts Soft Start spring. Lower engagement is nice and actually faster on snow.Well I had my first problem with the viper yesterday. Brought it home from a 150 mile

Those soft springs work well and they're not overly expensive. I ran one for awhile and it nicely lowered the engagement RPM with no significant side affects. I now run a softer spring combined with smaller rollers and really like it.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the vote of confidence in the soft start spring.
That’s the sad part I was planning on getting the soft start spring just hadn’t ordered it yet. Now I have to pick up the stock spring so I can still ride on top of it all lol. Least it’s a cheap part it the scheme of things lol. New spring from the dealer is 36 dollars here I think.

At least it failed at home instead out on the trails. I had to get towed out of the bush up near Sudbury Ont after a drive bearing went out with only 1800 miles on my Viper. Kind of disappointing when you lose a couple days of riding because of a premature failure of a normally reliable component. Part of the fun I guess

This happened to me on my 14 LTX, the original spring broke and now I am running the BOP soft spring and love it.

Thanks guys I picked up the stock spring from my dealer today so I can keep on riding at least. Sucks now that I'll have to spend another 70 bucks or so on another spring but at least I can bide my time a little now. Who knows maybe I'll just get used to it too. Rode for years with my nytro like this.
Still trying to sort out the heavy steering. I put in Bills spring and tightened it enough by hand so the spring was tight. I then turned it up another 5 turns. Thoguht in the shop it may be to much so I backed it down to 4 and did a bigger ride with it. If I got in another set of tracks I really had to man handle it to get it to turn out of it in a corner. I put it back in and tightened it back up two more turns to 6 turns and that's when the primary clutch spring broke so I haven't ridden it much yet. Still seemed to be a little heavy steering just driving it around the yard though. Might give the alignment a quick check. Only other thing I did was relocate the skid. Down one hole front and back. I'm bottom at the front and middle at the rear now. This would put slightly more pressure on the skis I imagine but I'm not sure it would be really noticeable. The tunnel protectors looked a little shinny above the top idlers like it had been rubbing a wee bit so I thought I'd try and gain a bit of extra clearance. Still only put about 400 kms on the sled. I'm liking it otherwise though.
