I noticed the snap ring that holds the rotor at the end of the drive shaft broke about an inch from the top. I had it off once for track exchange and then again to repack the bearing behind the caliper. Anybody else ever have one of these break? I'm assuming if the rest of it comes off the drive shaft could move? You can see in the pic only one tab is left.

My dealer didn't have any so he ordered me one. How can a Cat/Yamaha dealer not have such a simple little snap ring? I would think things like this should be in the parts bin just in case right?Get a new one in there.

Snap rings are pretty basic items, Im sure you can just grab one for alot less somewhere else if ya need it fast.
Odd, usually these dont break due to the type of steel they are. Never seen one break that I can recall all these yrs. Definitely good you saw that.

They might not break but they will come out of groove after buggering up the splines. I prefer the old design which has no ears with holes for a snapring pliers.

Yeah, never seen a snap ring break b4. I would think a hardware store (Menards) would be able to fix you up?

The groove is probably jacked. I have a thread on this and how I fixed it. The pictures are gone because Photobucket is annoying now. I'm going to re upload all my pictures to a different site and fix the links in my threads later today.

I did see this post before and my grooves that hold the ring are nice and square edged not beveled like others have posted. The problem isn't the ring coming out of the groove. Somehow the clip broke. Maybe when I had it on and off a couple times it got damaged? The groove is probably jacked. I have a thread on this and how I fixed it.
