Buying my first sidewinder, need help.

Hi! Im about to buy my first sidewinder.
Im sick of the suspension on my Skidoo MXZ 600 SDI from 2008 and saw a Sidewinder BTX SE for 6000€ for sale and thougt, damn thats cheap, and It looked like its in Great condition. I went away and test rode another sidewinder from a dealer close by and really liked it, suspension was awesome.

Started to Google and found out the BTX is maybe not the sled for me tho, but now it was too late, my teeth are already blooded lol. Anyway, now im thinking about these three sleds.

1. The cheap 2017 BTX for 6000€, newly serviced, two new belts, track in excellent condition. Cheap fox floats that i've heard #*$&@ about.

2. An 2017 XTX 137 for 7300€ from a dealer, not much info on this, track looks good, heated seat, FOX QS3.

3. The one i test drove, XTX 2020 for 9200€, missing a few half lugs, maptun stage 1, amazing condition on the sled, previous owner was the owner of the dealership. Will also take my old sled as part payment (2500€, was ready to sell it for 2000€ lol)

All of these have about 6000 miles on them. I was actually only thinking about putting down about 5000€ on a new sled but oh here i am, misstake to test ride one haha.


I mostly ride trails because thats what i can access from my house but its in the deep stuff that i really enjoy riding. I'd say its 85% trail riding.


I really want to justify buying the btx for cheap but i dont know if i can with those fox floats.. Im also having a hard time justifying a 9200€ buy for something i can use 4 months per year, if im lucky. I ride about 600-1000 miles per year.

What do you experts think?

I think @kinger has the Sidewinder BTX and trail rides with is so maybe he can chime and give his two cents. If the lugs aren't too terribly long on that BTX, you may not have any issues trail riding it.

IMO...the 2020 XTX with the trade in.
You are probably in the driver's seat on making a purchase so see if you can negotiate a better price.

Agree with Bob, the 2020's have some nice improvements over the 17-19's

I just called and said if they could include a cold air filter in the deal i'll take it, so tomorrow im getting the 2020!

It feels Nice with three months warranty. The last 4 stroke Yamaha i bought blew up after riding for 10 minutes so hoping that i have better luck with this one lol

@Agman 57 had a 50th btx as well but congrats on the new sled.

I would tell them to give you a new track with that 2020 XTX. if it's missing a few lugs the track is cooked. If they are torn down into the second ply i wouldn't trust it.

I agree maybe figure a good used track in the deal.. these sleds have too much power to go around doing the speeds they can with any parts that are not in perfect shape.. Your life and safety is worth way more than a few bucks saved .. There are many ways for a man to save some bucks, your sidewinder is not one of them…

Correct and good memory. I have 1375 miles now all trail. The fox floats are actually great! Couldn’t believe it myself. The orange flame is the best riding sled in my fleet. The uncoupled skid is a riot! I added power steering because it was a beast in tight trails but it’s not required. I actually enjoyed the workout. I add power steering for my Dad in case he ever comes to ride again.
