09 Nytro XTX
I have an 09 Nytro XTX and I love a lot about the sled. It has been flawlessly reliable and the power on tap is beyond anything I could ever use. All I have ever done to it is to add yamaheaters to improve the heated grips and added Yamaha tuner skis to resolve the darting.

My big complaint is the effort required to steer the sled. After 2 long days riding, my arms and shoulders are ready to fall off. I do all trail riding and when in the twisty trails the sled is a bit of a boat with the front weighted skis and long track.

Can any of you EX Nytro owners tell me how you like your Vipers compared to your Nytro's. Pro's and con's?

Do you regret selling your Nytro?

Is the steering effort lighter on the Viper?

How is the short track compared to long for trail use if you have tried both?

I got a Nytro RTX and Viper XTX. The nytro is a great sled, just the viper FEELS lighter, seems to handle better, Bigger fuel tank, rides better. The fit and finish is nothing like a Yamaha, but thats what to expect from AC.

Sold my 120 track Nytro and bougt a 2015 RTX SE 129 track viper. I think the engine performance was a little better on the Nytro but the Viper steering and handling is WAY better and the sled is far better balanced overall. The suspension (espcially rear) is much better and I don't have 30 lbs. of ice build up. I can still stand and ride with comfort but I find I can sit and take way more bumps than I could on the Nytro.

Love the larger tank, and awesome handwarmers. My only plan is a Excell Can and some clutch work and I think the engine will feel equal to the Nytro.

Overall - very happy and have had no issues after 700 miles of riding.

I had a 2010 XTX and I loved the sled, but the seating position along with tapered tunnel on the Viper are much better for tired old knees.
I spent probably $2000.00 on centre shock upgrades, Hygear rear spring spacers, low snow wheel kits, ski's and the list goes on to make it ride and handle better for 20% of the time I was on the trail.
I now have 2 Viper XTX's, as far as suspension is concerned, spend a couple of hours adjusting to your liking and ride and handling are much better.
I will however have spend that $2000.00 on Exhaust, PCV and some sort of intake mod to get the same performance I had from my Nytro.
Clutching is also much more of a challenge, both Vipers are 2014 XTX's, less than 300 apart in ser.#'s, but I have to clutch them individually to get the same final results.

First thing, there is no regret selling my Nytro. I did enjoy having her at times but for me it was time to move on. I did quite a few mods to her that should have come stock.
I took the Viper for a test ride last year and was impressed. Steering is lighter, stock hand warmers work, bigger tank, handles bumps better, seat is better, rider positioning is better, machine is lighter in real sledding conditions. Personally, I wouldn't have another sled with rear exhaust due to the weight that gets added. And is there anyone that doesn't like the push button reverse? And on and on………..
Viper chasis is way ahead. Actually there is no comparison in that department. It handles much much better.

If you are more than happy with the power of your Nytro than you will be happy with the power of the Viper. And I completely understand what you mean about the Nytro steering.

Fit and finish isn't as good as Yamaha but is decent.

I'm not trying to bash the Nytro just stating a few facts. Hope this helps.

Had an '09 RTX SE. Loved how it handled in the rough trails better than my 2014 Viper XTX. I had the same HEAVY steering issue as you with my Nytro with the Kimpex Arrow's skis (almost same as Tuner's). If you put agressive skis like C&A the Viper will become the same evil. I just put my old Gripper from the RMK today and its awsome, but be sure to have at least 6" of carbide, mine was 4" and it push in the corners.
The seating on the Viper is better, even if you need knee pads because your knees are always touchink the panels, one thing I hate that was not an issue with previous Yammies. But even after a 400km day on the Viper XTX, I am ready to go out again! Not the best trail sled, but definately fun and enjoyable for a 141" that does it all! Wind protection seem a bit better than the Nytro for me. If you go RTX or LTX I think you will like the track. On the XTX, in my opinion, the track is weak and the engine need something that grip more. In the end, my Nytro was faster, but I am happier with the Viper as I can use it for any riding type, and it still have great trail manners and is really comfortable!

The jury is still out on the reliability of the arctic cat chasis and the fit and finish is disappointing. The Nytro also seemed to have a little more power in stock form.
After previously owning a 2009 nytro xtx that was heavily modded with a full hygear suspension I can confidently say the handling is way better even in stock form with the viper LTX.
Other pluses are the gauges, lack of snow accumulation in the tunnel, weight, hyfax wear, looks, seat and ergos, hand warmers that work, subframe doesn't bend every other week and the viper just seems more balanced.
All things considered if it stays reliable I would choose the viper hands down.

Cant believe how many are saying its better.
I kept the nytro out of caution on the yamacrap.
Cant stand my viper. 700 miles and every time i ride it i want to trade it in.
Rode 2 nytro xtxs, my viper xtx, and a freeride 154 all back to back.
The nytros are great once u dial it in, seat is a bit low, only thing i really like about the viper.
Freeride is amazing box stock, outcorners the viper, rides better.
(Dont cry to me about length difference, when you have low snow craters its going to bottom anything, and it didnt bottom the freeride, sucked it right up.)
The viper...lets list my pet peves:
Fasteners...prepare to buy more tools, and shake your head in disbelief at what they use where
Fit finish assembly....is horrible. Need to remove 6 things to get at 1....picture 10x worse then a phazer!
Steering....haha hope u like push. Put simmons gen1 on with dual 4" cutting carbide...still push, lower skid shock to get it to turn...right into hard #*$&@ steering, twice as hard as nytro, steering bushing squeeeks its so hard!
Icing...haha, you still have it, it just moved. Run in powder and the machine gives you a steam facial and soaks your lap, fills running boards with snow....go downtrail, and the backside of windshield frosts up, outside of tunnel ices, and your shield.
Dont forget your butt!that gets wett and cold too, even with klim bibs! no wonder they offer a heated seat.
And the suspension, 700 miles adjusting it everyday, still not even close. Why didnt they just stick the nytro skid in there?
Im really at a loss for what to do with this sled. I really dont want to sink more money into it, but i cant stand to drive it like it is and i cant get a freeride till spring.
Wtf yamaha, thanks for sticking me on a skidoo buying 2 stroke oil again. Swore id never go back to 2smoke.
But your halfass engineering leaves me without any other good options. Dont even see how to fix all the #*$&@ wrong with this sled.

Glad I made the switch and my nytro ran awesome but the viper is much lighter easy to turn and needed less mods to get it where I wanted. Fit and finish may not be up to Yamaha standards fully but this motor and this chassis are a match made in heaven.

Well its only 44 days until the first day of spring and you can trade off. I'm sure there's a dealer near you that has a couple of Freeride's in stock now.

To bad you didn't like your new Viper.

It is an easy and cheap fix to change the front skid shock spring, XTX steer like crap stock.

Freeride is spring order only, name has to be put on the form to order. Dealers cant stock up on them.
3 months of riding left, and no freeride till next fall. Just found out skidont oil is like 50 a gal, im good on buying a jug of that every weekend.
Guess its time to call hygear and spend 3g.

Groomer to bad about your viper experience I have found that as for handling from one viper to next of same model is all over the place so there is no one fix but have you tried revalving the floats from good shock guy just wondering because I plan on trying this the summer. Free ride is a kickass sled though.
