Guys, first off, I know that this is a Yamaha sled forum but hey, I don’t want to bother setting up an id and all for the atv forum and figured that since I’m on here a lot with my sleds and that you guys are so knowledgeable with 4 strokes that someone here might have some ideas for me. So thanks in advance.
I have a 1999 Suzuki King Qaud 300 in which seems to be running lean and the air box fills up with fuel. I’ve taken the carb apart and cleaned it, now it seems to idle better, but if I give it gas it just bogs and stalls out like it runs out of fuel. Does anyone know if there’s something that’s common to fail on these things or should I take it apart one more time to see if I can find something obvious? Thanks.

Stupid question, does the airbox fill up with sled running or off?
Not sure, just noticed that it was pretty full, at least a couple of cups. Changed plug last night and it runs better, air box never filled up. Turned off the fuel after testing, so it shouldn't fill up. Still seems to be running lean, exhaust pipe out of the head glows red.Mikecam said:Stupid question, does the airbox fill up with sled running or off?

Sounds like a sticky float. Take apart again and check.

If the exhaust pipe is red you may also have a partially blocked exhaust.

Needle and needle jet maybe wore, I seen this alot on the 300 suzuki quads. I worked at a Suzuki and Yamaha dealership for 15yrs. The needle will have little grooves in it and the needle jet will be wore oval where the needle slides up and down. Just have a look when you have the carb apart. Float needle and seat also wears on this model too. Hope this helps.

Glowing exhaust is not uncommon with this atv.
Thanks for the replies, I won't worry about the exhaust being red hot if it's common. The needle looked fine, but I'll have another look at it, it's not hard to get at. I'll keep an eye on the air box and see if it fills up again now that I have it running a lot better. Thanks for the info guys. Anyone know if you can get a service manual for this thing, I'm watching for one on ebay, but may never come up?
