Hello all,

My carbides are wearing in the front more than the rear. I assume shimming the skis would help any idea and how much thickness to try? Thanks.

2015 vector 121” stock skis.

Typically your carbides will wear more towards the front. Yours seem to be opposite. Is it possible they are already shimmed at the back? By the looks of the carbide you would need to shim the front about 1/4”.

Confused they are wearing at the front. I can confirm no shims as I got brand new skis as part of the deal when I bought the sled two years ago and I put them on. I was just looking for a baseline to start 1/8”, 1/4”. I’ll give 1/4” a go as new carbides are going on. Thank you.

When you jack the front of the sled with the skis hanging the tips should be slightly up. Most shim the back to move the ski tip more upwards. This will typically reduce darting and even out carbide wear. I set my tips up with a 1/4” shim and with this set up my ski tips are a couple of inches higher than the back.

They definitely were hanging down in front a lot got a 1/4” in and they are now hanging as you describe. Thanks again.

glad you got it. i typically use a chunk of 1/4" rubber under the ski rubber.

Actually they are doing upgrades at work and we have some 1/4” fiberglass flat panels that are outdoor uv stable I went with. Cut them to the width of where the rubber sits and just behind the ski mounting bolt. The stuff is tough took the teeth right off my jigsaw blade lol.
