Does anyone know if the stock 86 link chain will work with 39/22 gearing?

Can anyone confirm if the stock 86 link chain will work? The gear charts I've found don't show this combo.

Thanks

I wonder how much slack though?

I just posted a ton pics in my build thread... from today's tear down.
https://ty4stroke.com/threads/my-rt...et-the-mods-begin.149801/page-28#post-1440629

I pulled my 22 gear, went back to stocker 21......and notice after 1450 miles, my chain stretched alot, and my adjuster bolt only has 5 threads left max.....So you might be even worse with that combo i would think.

I guess we can cut down that alum spacer if need be....The larger cat gears seem to fit with the chain adjuster bolt better.

There is a formula for this top sprocket plus bottom sprocket ÷ 2 + 54.19

The 54.19 comes from the centre distance which is 10.16 on the process chassis x2 ÷ .375.

Just started using this formula last year and it seems to work fine.

You lost me LOL

Ok that's easier for me to understand.

Thanks

DMC did you ever get around to installing these gears? I did and not sure I like the big loop in chain. Also had to remove spacer on tensioner bolt and replace with washer. Bolt is awfully far in, not sure I like this.

What do you guys think? Would you run this like that?

I havent got around to ordering it yet but according to the formula above you don't have a choice but to run the 86.

I myself prefer the chain with less of a dogleg. Maybe some others will chime in...

Well, if the consensus is that the dogleg is too big I may have a gear for you cheap....0 miles!! Lol

i went to buy a 39 the other day and I couldn't believe how expensive they were! Over 200$ cdn so I decided to wait.

Yup, they were $88, so I ordered one and then noticed price jumped up to $174.

I'm exploring my options here and thought of putting 23 on top but no one makes it. Only other option is 24 which albeit tight, should fit. However 24/39 is awfully tall for racing on snow. I don't think it will pull it if conditions are loose.

Anyone run these gears on snow?

I thought they were cheaper the first I looked. I couldn’t believe the price more than doubled. Not sure why...
