i have a new battery and had it tested and is fine. after riding for awhile it wont start, the battery is not getting recharged. it can only be either stator or voltage reg. does anyone no how to test to see if voltage reg. is good or not?

The test for the voltage regulator is to eliminate other causes. The Regulators haven't had a history of problems but the stators have so start with testing that.

do i test the stator plug with motor running?

Read the VOLTAGE at the battery jumper terminals with it running. You should get approximately 14 volts. If you don't then measure the stator coil RESISTANCE. With the motor not running disconnect the stator plug and probe the proper wires as shown.
