The small METAL latches that hold down the back fire screen can come loose and cause major damage inside your engine! The head of the aluminum rivet can break off and let the latch roam free in the air box. Check yours before it is too late!

This happened to me. But i was lucky, found the latches laying in the airbox.
Should have bougt a lottery ticket that day!

I'll check mine out, thanx for the heads up.

There is a post about this last year.Simple solution was to sting a zipty through all the clips.Works well.

I looked at mine they were both still there, I used a piece of tie wire and I looped it through both of the clips and around the front of the air box. That way if they do come off they will both be hooked together.

I guess I could do that and drill out the rivit.

There is a modification campain coming for this problem.
At least in scandinavia. Saw the message from Yamaha at my dealer.

I just popped them out with a screwdriver, then sealed the holes by melting them with a soldering iron. The screen stays in securely without them.

I wouldn't drill them and possibly get metal shavings in the throttle bodies.

Just got done ripping them out with a pair of pliers..better safe then sorry.. ( she's brand new..I've never started it yet). ;)!

Got a good look at a 08 rtx today. I was suprised to see that there was no new construction in the airbox. Same metal latches riveted to hold the filter.

so the 08s have steal rivits? so i shouldnt have a porblem or sould i just zippy them together anyway to be on the safe side?
