So I just had my first service done at the dealer and they resealed my oil tank under warranty and didn't change the filter. So I bought a filter and quart of oil from the dealer and changed it out. Was wondering if the sight glass on the oil tank if one way to check the oil besides the stupid sight glass behind the muffler. I did add about 2 oz. of oil after the new filter was installed because I lost a bit. Was just wondering if that was enough for just changing the filter on the sled? thanks for your input.

They said it’s not part of the warranty system and they said in the manual that they don’t change the filter every time it’s every other. But it’s just like a car I’d be pissed if I didn't get a new filter hence me just buying one myself cause I wanna keep my sled like in perfect shapeIs there any specific reason the dealer did not change the filter when they changed your oil?

A dirty filter cleans the oil better then a new filter UNTIL the filter is so dirty that it is blocking flow enough for the filter bypass to kick in.

Dealer is correct, per Yamaha it’s only required every other oil change. However I always change them both together. Same with apex, nitro and winders . It’s definitely a lot harder if you have a skid plate too

From Yamaguys post in FAQ. This is advice MPI gave and applies to all even NA and just substitute sight glass for thos e with that instead of dipstick.
NOTES ABOUT READING OIL LEVEL:
• Correct procedure for reading oil level.
• Level is always read by screwing the cap all the way in, then removed.
• Start with a cool vehicle on flat / level ground.
• Start vehicle and warm up for a few minutes (manual says till fan comes on). Typically once water has reached 150+deg F it is warm and variances from temp are gone.
• Shut motor off.
• Wait at least 30 sec, but no more than 90 sec to read oil level.
• Huge oil level reading variations have been observed. They are TIME & TEMPERATURE dependent.
• Highest level observed on warm motor with-in 60sec of shut-down.
• Level drops 60cc within 1 minute of above condition (would cause over-fill if customer used this reading).
• Lowest level observed on cold motor after only 30sec of run time (would cause 235cc over-fill).
• Oil level on cold motor and no run time is a little low (would cause 150cc over-fill)
• Reading oil level without screwing dip stick all the way in causes about 175cc over-fill in addition to above conditions.
