Clunk in suspension

Just purchased my Rage a couple of weeks ago and have a question my dealer was unable to rectify.
When going slowly(5-10 mph) over bumpy narrow woods trails I get a clunk in the suspension. My weight is about 220 lbs with gear on. It seems as if something clunks when first hitting the bump. When crusing at higher speeds over bumps I get no clunk and the suspension does not bottem out.
I did have some overheating problems where my yellow light came on when going slow on woods trails and had to pack the running boards with snow to keep the yellow warning light off. Because of this I had the rear heat exchanger installed which took care of the problem. I also found the tracking of the skis poor and installed Dooleys which made the tracking better.
Thanks for the info on the clutch rattle. To bad Yamaha did not learn from the cat 4 strokes and revamp their tracks so you cannot hear them.

The clunk is from the front track shock "Unloading" or topping out when the suspension extends. (According to ,my dealer) Increasing front track spring pe-load make it worse. Tightening the limiter straps should make it better at the sacrifice of some suspension travel.
I learned to live with mine since it only happens under the conditions you describe.

I don't believe the clunk is the limiter strap it is more likely the transfer rods but either way it is normal, they tend to bang in slow very choppy trails.

I would NOT make any adjustments to try to get rid of the clunk as the clunk is normal and you will only mess up ride quality.

Agreed, I've had that sound from time to time in certain conditions, and have come to the conclusion that its the gap in the transfer rods when the open and/or close abruptly.

Apparently normal.

Agreed also. I have noticed it more on the short bumps moreso than the larger bumps and as you stated (going slow) . you should be able to do a search for darting if problems continue. Rage 2005 gave me some good info on setup. Try the ski shim for darting. Also back off the spring preload on the front ski springs. These two adjustments did wonders for the handling of my Rage and i have the stock carbides still on (waiting toget begstroms). Also another tip Rage 2005 gave me (move your handle bars all the way forward). It willhelp steering by keeping the bars above your knees. Hope you enjoy your new sled. :rocks:

I appreciate all your input. It sure is helpful.
Ragen Yooper........What do you mean by moving your handle bars forward? The bars are above my knees now (I'm 5'11"). Do you mean rotating the handle bar up a little more?
I agree......this site rocks and yes, I do support our military especially being a vet myself.

Yes, that is what he's talking about. I wanted a little more adjustment so I got a Rox 2 inch articulating bar riser (thanks Newcastle Scott) for mine.

Puts the bars 2 inches higher, and I can rotate the whole handlebar unit itself forward without the bars being turned up. Give me much more room and leverage when I'm riding aggressively up on the tank.

I agree about not making adjustments to get rid of the noise.
I thought it was the transfer rods too but my dealer said no, it's internal to the front shock. I only mentioned the limiter straps because they would limit the amount the front arm can extend thus not allowing the front shock to extend fully hence no noise. My thinking anyway.

Whatever, live with the noise it's normal.
