Has anyone heard of putting a washer on the clutch sheve for more low end when big tires are installed?
TIA

There is talk about this on the forums. Most call it the Washer Mod and its for the Primary. There is two options that others talk about. Theres the "Full" and the "1/2" washer mod.

If anyone is famliar with there clutch then you know that when you remove the nut there is a washer behind it. That washer is 1/8" think that is the one you use for the "Full mod" and you will need to find a different one that is 1/16" for the 1/2. The stock washer you can use has a odd size hole because of the threaded shaft, so if you get a 1/16" washer you will have to drill out the new one. Plus you dont want to get one that it larger in diameter.

****Warning****
I've tried the Full washer mod that it causes the belt to rise above the secondary, so far in fact that when putting the case back on the belt will rub the case. I haven't done the 1/2 washer mod yet, but have heard that it doesn't rub.

We have allready installed Dalton Clutch kit in 660 Grizzly and yes it helped us a lot to regain the torque that we lost with 28" tires.
But... I was just thinking that maybe little more shorter ratio would not be bad in wetlands and hard climbing in rocky hills.

So, if we go for shimming 2nd clutch spring should we start adding for examble 1/8" (~3.2mm) shim or does it need more thickness?
Dalton kit includes allso 14.5g weight rings to 1st. clutch...

Jevil,

I use to shim my primary on my Yamaha snowmobile, and trust me 1/8" washer will make a difference, if I remember right (been a while) for every washer it was worth a couple 100 rpms.

But that was the primary, with the grizzly you will have to do the secondary.

It looks like that might be the solution for us...
I just have to make the shim and try it at first place.
Thank you for your answer!
